How to find clear cuts

Unread postby DEERSLAYER » Sat Jan 29, 2011 5:54 pm

Dose anybody have any links to sites that show recent clear cuts and planned future clear cuts? There has got to be an easy way to track them down.

You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Come to the U.P. and drive down a back road. You will find one  Would suggest checking with the large logging companies. I dont know if state clearcuts on public are kept track of by michigan state or not. St.Johns logging is a huge logging company from lower michigan that does alot of work up here.

You have a few options here. Buddie up to any logger you can find, they usually know all the sales going on in your area. I am lucky enough to know such a logger in my area and I usually find out a year or two in advance of any new cutting.

Try and find the most recent aerial photos available. In MN I have been able to get photos from the summer of 2010 so I can stay on top of the latest changes in my areas.

3rd you just have to get out there and find them, lucky for us there are big roads to show you the way. The trick is to find the cuttings that are remote and hard to get to. Most of the time these areas can only be logged in the winter because it's too wet to drive in the warmer months. Chances are you might have to hoof it into these areas but most of the time you will not see any other hunters and that just happens to be where you might run into a big buck. To find these remote areas focus on islands of high ground out in a huge swamp or logging roads that have to cross wet and swampy areas to get way back.

I thought I would bring this up one more time in hopes somebody might know of some links to sites that would make easier to find clear cuts.

I didn't realize they were cutting that much up there. The deer up there can definitely use the food. What kind of timber are they mostly cutting?
