In a nutshell...

Dude shot this buck three times in two weeks. He stalked it once, shot it high, got trail cam pics that night of buck with arrow still in it (couple inches of penetration). Week later, shoots it again from treestand, again, high shot, but opposite side. While tracking "good blood" after the second shot, the buck runs past him chasing a hot doe... The arrow still in the buck!

The third and final shot happened 5 days later, November 7th, when he sees the buck bed in the marsh from his treestand. He climbs down and stalks within 35 yards. After a two hour wait, buck stands up and he makes a clean shot, but the buck still made it 300 yards before piling up.

What made this story all te more interesting is that when I was admiring his buck in the bed of his truck, he pulls the trail cam pics out and 3 matching sets of the bucks sheds from 2.5, 3.5 and 5.5 year old years.. This buck was 6.5 years old.

I thought, "How cool is this story??" Here's a guy with a 5 year history/quest and he finally connected after 2 failed attempts and he had the pictures, sheds AND buck to connect the dots in his story. There in the bed of his truck was also the torso of the buck (ribs, front shoulder and neck still in tact). Because the buck was skinned, the previous two arrow wounds were very evident. He was one of a proud hunter to finally get some closure on a buck of a lifetime for most.

I erased the story because the internet is much smaller than most think and there were more than a couple individuals inquiring about the individual and the whereabouts and since I use my real name, I don't want the guy looking me up asking WTF did I tell HIS story for?? For all I know, maybe he would have appreciated it, but WTH, here's the story anyways, just on a different site, lol.

14 points, split brow, great mass, 27 inch main beam on one side, the other with a pretty down sweeping main beam. . . This buck was rough scored at 180 on the head.

The hunter who tagged the buck is now a member of the site and is putting some pics together to share. . . How cool is that? A friend of his saw the story and filled him in - he seems like a humble, down to earth kind of guy, and I'm happy he's willing to share.

This deer most certainly isn't dumb. When you spend the previous 3 years compiling photos and sheds, while waiting for him to get mature, you tend to find out what the animal likes to do.

So for my 2010 season, this was the only buck I was going after. I had a history with him by passing him up and finding his sheds... he was finally 5 years old and his rack blew up from the previous year.

A few corrections and additions to the story...

Green Score: 180 inches gross antler, 176 net non typical. 5 years old. 15 points. (161 main frame 10pt with 4 inches side to side deductions and 19 inches of abnormal points).

October 8th, 2010. I saw him stand up at 3:50pm right after I got into a tree overlooking the marsh. He was right next to a cedar tree so he was easily pinpointed. After my Dad gave me a pep talk I got down and went after him. I snuck the 300 yards in a little under an hour and got to about 40 yards away. Around 6pm he finally stood up, I drew back, stood and fired the shot. He was in a golden rod thicket so I could only see his head and guessed on shot placement. The arrow looked high when he bolted off. I waited until morning to look.

October 9th, 2010. My brother and I went to look for blood. Found a good blood trial and my busted arrow. Didn’t get a whole lot of penetration. My brother spotted a large deer escaping from where the buck ran in the night before. We followed blood and found where he had bed for the night. Blood pretty much stopped after that. We tracked him to the creek crossing where my brother had seen the deer sneaking off. It must have been him.

October 10th, 2010. I got 2 pics of him on one of my cams in the morning. You could see that I had hit him high right behind the shoulder but didn’t get enough penetration to hit spine.

October 18th, 2010. Snuck in and set a stand close to where I was getting morning pictures of him. Sat it that night and he walked by me at 20 yards but I didn’t have a clear shot. I got down from the tree after I saw him lay down 80 yards away. He busted me when I got to 40 yards and I never got a shot.

October 19th, 2010. Saw him from a scouting stand. He walked right by the stand I had set earlier that day, but I couldn’t sit it because the wind was wrong.

October 24th, 2010. Jumped him while I was checking a camera. He was bedded 40 yards from it but there wasn't a pic of him on it. Makes you wonder how many good bucks side step your cameras!

October 30th, 2010. I saw him bed down in the marsh that morning and went after him again. He must have saw me climb down the tree or something because by the time I got to the spot where he was, he was gone. I waited for 5 hours for him to stand up before I figured out he wasn’t there! 5 hours in the marsh staring at the grass move can make a man go crazy!

October 31st, 2010. I sat the stand where he walked by me on the 18th. He walked by me again this day but was out 100 yards. I grunted him in to 35 yards and hit him high again! (no excuse on this shot, just missed high). I fired two more "prayer" arrows at him while he bounded off but missed.

November 1st, 2010. My buddy and I tracked his blood trail for about 2 hours when all of a sudden he came flying by us chasing a doe. I went to check the camera closest to where he had come from and sure enough, he was on it with the arrow sticking out of his back! That night I saw him bedded down with the doe from my stand and decided to stalk them. Got to about 60 yards and the doe busted me, they ran off and I never got a shot.

November 6th, 2010. I saw him chasing does in the marsh. Then he got his kicked by a younger deer. He was obviously hurting from the 2 arrows in him, he couldn't get any leverage. He started working away from me so I got down and tried to cut him off. I was too late, he got on a doe and ran clear across our property on to the neighbors. I didn’t get much sleep that night.

November 7th, 2010. I sat the stand closest to where he was chasing does the day before. I saw him walk out into the marsh and bed down in almost the same spot as October 8th. I waited for the wind to pick up and then made my stalk. Got to 37 yards and I could see his antlers thru the marsh grass. I settled in and waited for 2 hours. Finally he stood up broadside looking away from me. I fired off a shot and he bolted off. He ran the exact same trail as he did on October 8th. He crossed the creek in the same spot. And we lost blood and found his bed in the same spot too! I was crushed but then I heard my Dad say… “There he lay!” He was piled up dead in a thicket a few yards from his bed and last blood. FINALLY GOT HIM!

I've included some kill photos and the photo with the arrow in him.

WOW!! Dude, thank you so much for telling your story - that was an awesome read.. Loved the dated journal entries.

A buck of a lifetime!! It was a pleasure meeting you and putting my hands around those tines.
