Wisconsin EAB question????

Unread postby The Rav » Fri Oct 15, 2010 3:44 am

I've got another WI. archery license this year and I just want to make good and sure I understand the rules and regs concerning this whole earn a buck stuff. I will be focusing on Barron County this fall and I believe that the area I'm in is not an EAB zone. I just want other opinions to be good and sure about this. Saturday is going to be a good moon day and I've got a good gut feeling about this spot that I want to check out. I learned a couple important things about this spot last year. Last week when I was up there I learned of a good trail going into this public land as I was walking the road. There are corn fields from the north all the way to the west and to the southwest there is a lake to drive them through this little pinch point into the public land. I didn't go tromping into this spot, I didn't want to get my scent in there. But, what I want to know forsure is that if I see a good buck in here I want to pop him. It just seems to good to be true.

Do you know the unit you will be hunting? This weekend is the early antlerless slaughter, and there are a few units thet dont have it and you can still bowhunt for a buck. It looks like you might be in unit 22 wich is open to buck hunting with archery. Hope that helps.

You know, here's another question. I shot a doe and got my EAB sticker this bow season, but no one offered me another buck tag. So, if I shoot a buck and then another doe in the CWD EAB unit I'm hunting, do I have to ask for the secondary buck tag that's supposedly free?

Just wondering.

I don't understand your question?

You should get a sticker for every deer you shoot within the EAB area.

That's my question - what goldtip is suggesting. Yes, I get an EAB light blue sticker after registering a CWD unit doe, but since you can shoot multiple bucks in an CWD EAB Unit so long as you "Earn" him, shouldn't you get a tag of sorts to attach to the 2nd doe and buck if you earned one?

I guess I just don't understand the operation. Is there a special CWD buck tag that's issued some place? Do I have to burn my regular buck tag in a CWD unit?

Originally we're given a CWD/Herd Control Unit Doe Tag, a Herd Control Doe Tag and a Regular Buck Tag. If the rules state you can shoot unlimited deer in a CWD unit so long as you abide by the EAB regulations, how are you supposed to tag another doe after you burn the original CWD/Herd Control Tag on the first one you shot?

All I got was a light blue EAB sticker saying I can now shoot a buck, do I have to use my Regular Buck Tag or is there a special CWD buck tag? So let's say I shoot him and register him. Now I want to go shoot another doe in the CWD unit, do I have to use my (Herd Control doe tag or should I have been given a new CWD Doe Tag? Now let's say I got another CWD/Herd Control tag and shot a 2nd doe.. Rules state I can now shoot another buck, but HOW? No one gave me a actual tag to put on the buck if I were to shoot one.

So I assume I have to go to a license vendor and BUY a $2 CWD doe tag if I already burned my original one.. Now I bought it and go sit that evening, shoot the doe to fill that tag, essentially earning another buck tag for CWD units, and here comes a buck.. How can I tag him??

I'm freakin out man!

i think the regs say the buck only has to be accompied by a legally shot tagged doe in a EAB UNIT.s o im just guessing that you may not even have to tag that buck if shot on same day you tag your doe.As far as saving your original tag for a non EAB unit i think you just ask a vendor for more doe or buck tags for EAB units. But then again i may not know what im talking about so i would check the regs.

You can ask a registration station in your area for the Free CWD tags that can go on either a doe or a buck. (They are the paper tags) If you shoot a buck you need to have a EAB sticker on the tag.

You do need to tag the buck, but if it is with a doe shot and tagged by the same hunter it does not need a sticker.
