My first public land Doe!

Unread postby Gardner Swamp » Tue Oct 05, 2010 1:42 pm

I got my first public land doe last night(10-3)I had hunted this area thursday and friday and saw deer but could not connect.Last night I moved about 80 yards to the south and at 5:10 I had a fawn 20 yards to the east.2 minutes later mom showed up and the other fawn. All three walked underneath me and I waited till she was about 10 yards and I wacked her quartering away. We had about an 80acre drag :( but my brother brought a sled with him and that worked out great!! Sorry I don't have any pics :(

Me too!!!!

Went out Sunday night, had a pile of deer come in at dark. Monday night I moved (no lie) about 100 yards to the south and climbed up into a gnarly willow tree. About 6 a lone doe came in ten yards out and I double lunged her. This was my first archery deer on public land, and my first deer with archery gear in 5 years. Tagging anything on public is pretty exciting in my book.

Dragged her about 1/4 mile through some nasty dogwood/willow/marsh grass stuff. Got about 50 yards from the car and then I decide to go get the sled, best 20 bucks ever spent. I won't drag one out without it ever again.

I nicked the stomach while dressing her...and it was the first deer I have shot in a long time (maybe ever) with no corn in its stomach...all browse for this girl.

Could see my car and a four lane highway from my stand :D plenty of deer there, and no hunters cause it's too thick and hard to hunt. Shhhhh.

Hunting lease $1000, Private Land $100,000, Killing public land deer with a bow? Priceless! And you can keep the change.
