That is a nice bear, she sure does have a big pumpkin head for a sow.

I have to agree with the scale comment and the average size bears shot, seems everyone always shoots a three hundred pounder, then I'll ask where they had it weighed and they say they actually didn't put it on a scale and I say nice bear and move on. Bears are very hard to judge, especially when its go time. I think you have to watch a lot of bears and see them dead and put on a scale to get good at guessin' what they weigh, jmo

Sows legal in MN with 2nd year cubs?
Sows are legal here with 1st year cubs. I'm not sold these are 2nd year cubs though. Every bear we've gotten a picture of this year Is In awesome shape. The berry crop was excellent this year along with allot of rain In northern Mn. It's green all over up there.

What are you thinking these cubs weigh being you think there 1.5 year olds? I'm thinking their In that 50 pound range and In excellent shape.

Well as someone said before hard to judge weight froma picture.

Second year cubs here go between 100 - 150lbs (not dressed). If you think those are first year cubs.....have any height reference pictures?.....I am off on the 250lbs dressed weight. Sure wouldn't be the first time.

We had cubs in the backyard the other night (1st year) and they were still good coon size........but with good food I guess 1st year cubs could grow larger?

Got some more pics of this bear. Funny thing was It was at another one of our baits 1.5 miles away. I guess I shouldn't be surprised but rather disgusted. I'd rather have her at one bait then 2 of them. Anyhow this sow Is about 6 feet tall. Got a good height reference at this other bait. When I get those pics loaded on to this computer I'll show you all.

Nice bear and I'm sticking with the 247 weight guess.

You guys shooting sows? Don't know about 1st year cubs and survival rates after taking the sow out? Second year cubs I see no problem......just don't know enough personally about 1st years.

Never did the research as sows with cubs are illegal in WI. Canadian hunts always tried for trophy boars, but did shoot a monster sow once not knowing and didn't have cubs. Spring weight 375 and squared 7'-0 1/2". One of the largest sows the "outfitter" every saw. Skull was over 18 inches.... just don't remember the exact dimensions.

I think your right after seeing this picture the cubs are 1st years.

They are this years cubs. You can see where they were sucking earlier this year. Like I said every bear up here Is In excellent condition this year with the huge early berry crops and all the green In the woods.
