Would you shoot this weirdo ?

Unread postby dreaming bucks » Wed Jul 14, 2010 2:32 am

Got this buck on the camera last week.... what do you think, is he a good one to get out of the herd, or is he cool, and let him grow to be a freak ?

I think he's sweet! If you think he'll stick, let him grow another year and he'll be awesome, but that's a personal decision... He's neat looking and freaks are hard to pass up because they are hard to come by. What are you thinking of doing?

Lol... I just don't know Sam. I'm thinking someone will take him if I don't. I'm hoping to get some more pics of him later on to see if he grows anymore.... but ya, it might be hard to let him walk, especially with the bow... If I get anymore pics of him, I will update you...

If I had the chance I think I might have to nab him.

Here is a pic I had of him last year, or atleast I think it's him... same spot before we logged last year... My nephew had him at 15 yards and cousin also had him at 15 yards last year rutt time.... Pretty sure it's the same buck, unless we have two freaks out there... If it is him, looks like his right side is more normal this year, but the left side is still screwed up...

Cool deer, it would be hard for me to pass on him, although who knows what he would carry next year.

It depends on your management plan and if its private or public. I think he is cool and would be happy with him. I love the freaks!

I think his antlers are probably like that cause of a wound he got earlier in life.

it's private land... but we only own 60 acres, so lots of neighbors, but they are all pretty good at management, so it's not like they would automaticly kill him either... I don't know, I have shot 2 bucks in the last few years that were about identical in score ( 139), so I was hoping to improve on that a little bit, so I was going to hold out for something bigger than this freak... I know the whole theory behind "holding out for something that is not there", but I truely think we have a couple 150" deer running around that I know of, and hopefully something bigger that will surpise me... Gotta get out scouting here in the next couple weeks to see whats here...

id shoot that "weirdo", but i also like the freaks. that is not the same buck as the other one in my opinion. he looks to have some growth left. whenever the ends of the tines have rounded blackened ends they still have growth left. i guess if score is what you are looking for dont shoot this buck cause your not getting that out of this buck. but he looks to be a fine trophy for someone.

I'd give him at least one more year, the velvet pic looks like a young deer (2.5) the hard horned pic looks like a 2.5 or 3.5 so i don't think it's the same buck. I could be wrong due to the angle of the velvet pic, but his rump looks huge compared to his chest...................If he was mature (over 3.5) I would be ecstatic to put him on the ground......Freaks are cool! 8-)

Looks to be a 3.5 year old to me. Would I take him? Tough call but probably not. Don't matter what I think though. That rack got messed up with an Injury I bet.

Depends on what caliber of deer are in the area, next year he could be stupid big and stupid looking. :)
