So we arrived and set up camp two days before the opener to do some scouting.

and visiting the Mamoth Site

Layne got her very first bow kill - a seagull that wandered onto shore with a Rapala stuck in it's mouth.

Finally, the hunt was on. Layne and I spent about 23 hours in the blind the first two days

After figuring out there was too much water around, we got out of the blind and found a REALLY NICE buck with about 22 does. I later realized that although I got a lot of nice video of this buck who we coined "the big guy", I don't have one single still photo of him. Sorry guys. The next two days were spent making one stalk after another on "the big guy" and his does. On two back to back stalks I missed "the big guy" at about 60 yards and got one of his girlfriends at 40 yards.

Layne did AWESOME and was right there by my side on many hard stalks and sits in 100+ degree weather for four days. During those four days I hunted almost as hard as I would have if I were alone. But eventually I could tell Layne had about enough and so we pulled camp and I treated her to a night in a hotel with a pool on the way home. I am so proud of Layne for her natural hunter instinct and work ethic! I am truly blessed!!! My only problem now is trying to get back for just a couple more days to kill "the big guy". He's right there and I only need a bit more time. If I can find somebody to pull a still from my video for me I'll post a pic. He's a beauty and I'm sure P&Y.

No :D It came from either it's mouth or the hole in the front of her chest. I couldn't tell which.
