What canoe or kayak is best?

This is 10ft long very light with a flat back. I put a trolling motor on it and go up the slough to sneak in.

My own custom camo job and if you pull it up on the bank and flip it over in some brush it really does blend in.

I made simple portage rests out of some kids noodles for swimming and I carpeted the bottom with indoor ourdoor carpet.

It makes it really quite so that you can set your stuff down or walk from one end to the other without making a racket...

I found it on craigslist I can't remember what I paid but $500 seems about right.

I have had one buck floated out with it so far.

I’d love this canoe! I wish I had one like this that was lighter and 10 ft. Mine is 15.5 and a bit much for solo trips, Very cool.

This 200# buck, my 230# self and gear is about all my nucanoe could handle. For reference. I bought that boat for $700. Used on craigs list. You can find greet deals. Just be patient.

I like my nucanoe flint. It meets all your criteria except for the under $500 part. At 160lbs plus gear and a deer I'm pushing the weight limit of the kayak. If I weighed any more I would probably go with something with a higher weight rating. Thinking about picking up a nucanoe F10 for the peace of mind the extra width and stability would bring during cold weather trips

You can find cheap canoes

Yep I rarely pay more than 200-300 for a canoe, if you are patient you can find deals. One time I found a beat up aluminum for $25, needed a little patchwork but it floats.

I’ve had that idea as well picking up 3-4 very cheap canoes and stashing them for the season on public land to use as needed and picking them up at season close

Thanks for all of the input guys. It's cool to hear different opinions/experiences on what works best. I think as some have mentioned they each have their pros/cons. I'm thinking a kayak may work best for what I need, but I will just keep my eyes out for a good deal and would probably be happy with either. I think as long as it can help me get in the game and I can handle it easily by myself will be the main factors. It definitely opens up lots of options on the public around here.

I have an inflatable 2 person intex kayak that I bought two years ago on sale for 50 bucks. I’m shocked I haven’t busted it yet, but it was well worth the $50.

I also have a sun dolphin 12’ Jon boat that might do what you’re looking for. I paid 550 for it new.
