Need opinion: Muck Boot vs Alpha burly

Unread postby futuredoc » Fri Apr 09, 2010 7:41 am

Put a hole in my LaCross's this past season and need a new pair of boots. I've heard nothing but good things about Muck boots, but I also heard that the neopreme(spelling?) lining on the upper part of the boot is not "scent proof" or at least as scent proof as rubber. You guys know anything about this? Also anyone tried both and have a preference?

thanks,

K

I prefer the Alpha Burly Lite with zipper. Best pair I have had yet. Had Mucks before but even though very comfy, the lining tended to hold odor more.

Nothing is completely scent free. That being said I would go with Muck because they are so much more comfortable. And btw... I own a pair of Alpha Burlys

Muck man myself....fit just like a shoe and are bit more flexible around the ankles. For me that is a good thing for others maybe not.

I have both and agree that the Muck boots are much more comfortable. A few things about the Alpha Burly's is that they offer a little more ankle support and they are a little taller if you want to walk in deeper water. This isn't much of a factor for me since I will wear hip boots anyways when hunting marshes.

If you go with the Alpha's be sure to get them now, well before season opens. They tend to come with a very strong rubber smell. Mine smelled like a new car tire and ended up replacing them with Mucks after unsuccessfully trying to remove the smell.

Think mucks outshine the burlys significantly; or at least for me experience with durability and comfort

I've never had either but heard good things about both Mucks and Lacrosse.

Check out this link. I've heard the briar or snake proof chaps that are sewn to either Mucks or Lacrosse boots are the best piece of gear a hunter can have if nasty environments in the boonies is where he or she hunts. Going to get my son a pair this summer. Check out pages 14-22 at http://danshuntinggear.com/files/Catalog2008.pdf

I've never had Muck boots, but heard they are excellent. I have some Burly's right now in OD green and they are a comfortable excellent boot. However, they do have a strong rubber smell when you buy them. I buy mine before turkey season and wear them quite a bit. The smell diminishes with use.

I have a pair of Mucks, have used them for everything for 3 years and still no leaks. I dont think they are very comfortable though, but I dont think anything from China is comfortable.
