Re: Live from the field 2020
Tried a little tracking this past weekend w the muzzy, cut a good track and followed to a bedding swamp I know. I left the track and looped downwind of bedding nice and slow and jumped him and a doe but no shot. Gave them a little time and hit the track, pretty soon I was looping in circles and having all kinds of fun. We ended up crossing my own tracks 4 times and they just kept circling in these small thick pines until I ran out of light. Needed a wing man on that one because they were walking right out in the open on logging roads a couple of times.
Had a wing man the next day and cut an even bigger track, jumped him off a ridge and the chase was on. I cleared a couple of smaller ridges and he ran down into a big bowl, figure he was setting a trap for me and he did, went as slow as I could be he still got the better of me and slipped out without a visual. Should have done like the track from the day before and tried to loop around his trap but hindsight is always 2020. After that he knew we were on him and he paralleled a road for a mile and jumped into a huge swamp, made one last ditch effort to get him but the sun was setting and time was running out.
Taking my lumps learning tracking but it sure is fun.

Sitting in the roadside funnel again. Im not a fan of repeated sits especially 3 times in 4 days but it’s all I have time for.

Doe down! They didn’t even come through the funnel they came out of some willow bedding by the road. Then took the funnel trail away from the food source...

Re: Live from the field 2020
Thanks guys! Was a short drive from home and only 350 yards from the road so had my Dad pick up the girls. it’s always fun including them.
60 yard shot quartering to. Broke her near side shoulder and took out some of the major vessels on top of the heart. 50 yard sprint and she was down in sight. Perfect.
Now I can concentrate on Mr. Big

Thanks Dave. Some people don’t get too much of a kick out of shooting a doe, but I do. I have almost as much fun as taking a big buck. Plus now there’s bacon wrapped backstraps galore for the smoker
But the best part is my season is made and I’m happy. Now I can concentrate on buck hunting. Hopefully we get some snow and 0 degree temps

I saw 19 does and fawns on the alfalfa tonight. I will be out tomorrow to hopefully shoot a doe with my little guy.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Back at it this morning, in a spot I haven’t been to since October. Had a target buck in here ive followed around since August and as of now my last known picture of him is October 14. Gonna check a few cams on my way out, but unless I can get some kind of confirmation he’s still around I’m probably gonna bail on this spot.
So far all I’ve seen is an otter
