Old nail in steps?

Went for a hike with the rifle into the swamp yesterday and I stumbled onto this tree fallen down and I sat to take a break I noticed these metal pieces that looked like steps nailed into the tree .. must’ve been there along time since the nails were rusted and tree was rotted... does anyone know what they are or when they were made?

Thats a cool find. Never seen steps like that. Sometimes those old stand sites are really good spots to hunt.

Sometimes I see things made back in the day and think, men were men back then. Sometimes I see things like these and wonder how many people must've ate it using them.

It’s not really mobile hunting for today’s standards... but back in the day I can see someone using these for light weight and then carry a hammer to pry off, relocate and reuse on a tree farther down the line! I love finding old relics like this

I remember being "mobile" back in the day with screw in steps. I had 6 set stands but couldn't afford 100 steps so I'd pack in and screw in/out of all my sets. Crazy.

Then I got a climber and life was much better.
