Hit a spot today... Lots of trails, fresh scat of all sizes. Set up on the ground downwind of suspected bedding.

Heard some movement coming from where I suspected the deer to come from about 35 minutes before close. Move-stop. Move-stop.

It's some dude following a deer trail. Just before sundown.

Waved hello and pulled the plug.

Shot a big cranker this morning, shot was high and a tad forward. He dropped some just before impact, I think it was above the spine and had an impact with the opposite side scapula. The front 3/4 of the arrow was laying at the site of the shot and he ran off carrying the lighted nock blazing. Arrow looked like meat hit. He went about 60 yards and stopped and flicked his tail for several minutes then slowly walked off. I found not good blood where he initially stopped then a few very small clots of blood over the next 200 yards or so, then just tracks in the leaves. No bed or anything. I searched for five hours and came up empty. Fairly confident he's going to survive based on what I found.

Congrats to your Mom Crazi!

I raced home from work today to grab a thing or two then get a quick scout in. Elli wouldn’t let me leave alone ;) daylight activity was DEAD but we shined 20 does and one yearling buck. Stopped and talked to the landowner where the drop tine lives and he’s got family coming to hunt. So that’s out at least for this weekend.

Elli also talked me into taking her muzzleloading in the morning. We’re going to sit a pinch point by the road. There’s a LOT of does in the private to the South this year. They’ve got winter wheat and alfalfa. Hopefully a doe wants a nice soft bed of cattails... that or the neighbors could easily kick something to us.

Doe kill with her would be epic. A big buck is certainly not out of the question. I don’t think anyone got the big one that I jumped 1/4 mile from where we’ll be sitting.

You never know...

Good luck everyone!

Making memories! Saw 3 so far but all a long ways off on private. Elli likes the hand muff and rechargeable hand warmer.

Wednesday evening I shot a doe and five minutes later shot this guy 20 yards from her after he'd worked a scrape.
