Re: Live from the field 2020
Congratulations to all the killers
I haven’t been on here in close to a week since I was at my camp for my rutcation and pretty much zero cell service. I had a few really good days and close encounters with some 120-130 class deer just couldn’t close the deal. I did have fun and learned a good bit. Hopefully I can get out this week as it’s the last week for archery. Saturday our bear rifle season comes in and I’ll be heading to a buddy’s camp for that.

Just shoot one already.
I'm really enjoying seeing this kind of action for once. It will happen soon.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Finally back in the tree after almost 4 weeks off. Sitting right near a private cornfield on public. Wind is ok but gets pretty iffy when it gusts but I'm going for it. When I got here there were atleast 6 300 yards or so off the public in the private field. Atleast 3 bucks one good one for sure looks like a 2 yr old and maybe a few year and a halves with does. Not acting aggressive or ruty really at all that I can see but the 2 yr is bedded 30 yards out into the cut corn watching over everything. The bigger one sticks his head out every so often so I know hes not far. Only thing I can figure is they are just watching over this little doe group. Maybe one of the does is close idk. Got tonight and tomorrow and that's probably it till gun season this weekend. Good luck to everyone still out

Re: Live from the field 2020
Had a descent 8 at 25 yds this morning and no shot. Too thick. Nose down and zig zagging like a beagle.
Having serious trouble with this area. I’m in the deer it’s just really thick and I can’t find any sort of a pinch to push them close to me. Every deer ive seen has been moving in what seems to be pretty random directions. No 2 have done anything even remotely the same.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Ended up seeing over 20 tonight most on private but did have 7 or 8 cone by the stand. Only one in range but she was jumpy and had me pegged right away. Almost hit 3 more on the way home crossing the road into the public. Fun night for sure. Hopefully I'll get one more sit tomorrow night before the guns come out. Would love to kill another bow deer this year so we'll see what I can make happen

Re: Live from the field 2020
Gabe’s tag is punched!! Pretty wild story too. We gave chase and I accidentally left my shooting sticks on the hill Gabe hit him hard but he stayed on his feet. I opened up to help out (we discussed this ahead of time). We were shooting through trees and the buck was moving but hurt bad. While chambering a round I hear Gabe’s gun go “click”
The buck stops in a clearing 5’ from the private fence line. I was sitting with my arms rested on my legs and I ended up dropping him at 237 yards
Gabe’s first ever ten pointer. Roughly 14” wide with 8” g3’s. Nice buck! I tell you what, having two people to pack a deer out is pretty handy terrain was much more forgiving at this spot but it was still a good walk. 2.84 miles to get him to the truck.
We’re 4/5 for bucks and 2/4 for does. Sadly this is my last night here. South Dakota it has been FUN!! Until we meet again...

Thank you! SD never disappoints. Im heading home but just got a text from Zach and he tagged a buck this morning. So we went 5 for 5 in 4.5 days of hunting. Zach and Gabe both have doe tags yet and I’m sure they can fill them fairly easily if they choose to do so.
