Good golly man. Tough when it happens but it happens. That’s a brute.

I had been bouncing around with smaller buck sightings and very little movement on camera. I seen a really nice 4 year old buck in a transition area. The wind was iffy and he kept licking his lips and trying to wind me with no luck. He didn't come in, he just flicked his tail and walked the other way.
The next day, I come in from a different direction because the wind was different. I was also on the ground this time. Normal warm November day with super crunchy leaves. All of a sudden I hear this loud crunching and this buck with his mouth open like he had been chasing. I draw when he goes behind a tree and "meh" at him at 20 yards. He didn't stop so I tried a walking shot. I'm not sure if my arrow hit a limb or what, but I hit him in the guts. Clean pass-through. He had 0 idea what happened. I got another arrow and tried to navigate to get another shot. He then blows at me! High FOC arrow and single bevel head went through him so fast he didn't know it. I back out and wait until the next day. We get on little blood and lose it after 300 yards. I hunt a few days and had some stuff with my kids before I can hunt again. My dad goes out looking for this buck and finds him! He said there was 30-50 crows on him and he smelled horrible. We called the game warden and did all the necessary stuff to make sure it was legit. Not the way I wanted it to go, but I have the buck I was after. He is about to be a shoulder mount . My very first!
I am going through a very similar situation at the moment. What kind of terrain did you find him in? Was he near water? Any info to possibly give me a little direction would be much appreciated.
