Jake, tom, or both?
Muddys success got me thinking. Do you wait out for a tom or are you in the mindset a turkey is a turkey?

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
Always holding out for a longbeard when I'm carrying my gun...but for my first kill with the bow, I will take a jake if presented a shot. After I get that under my belt, I will probably continue holding out for a longbeard again.

With the bow i would take a jake, but with the gun, it has to be a tom unless its the last day or two

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
My answer to the question. I've only shot one jake and that was about an hour before closing time on Sunday (two springs ago). Only way I'll shoot a jake is if its the last minute on Sunday.

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
Just depends on my mood for the day. We can take two birds for the season in MD, happy to take a jake for one of them. Haven't been seeing many birds around my place lately so I don't think I'll be too picky this spring.

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
A bird in the hand is worth 3 in the bush rings true for me, especially now that I have kids. I just don't have the time to commit to hunting that I once had. If I'm gun hunting in my home state on a cheaper tag then I'll hold out a little longer for a longbeard.

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
I am trying to get my first turkey plus I will be hunting with my bow so I will take what I can get.
Either one would be a trophy in my eyes.

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
I got two tags so my tag for the second period has to be a Tom! I've never shot a jake so I would do that on Sunday of the 6th period if I need too!

I've never shot a turkey before and was only on one hunt with my dad when I was about 12 and saw him shoot one but I'm going it alone so that being said if its got a beard I'm pulling the trigger can't be picky til after ya get that first one under your belt...its a confidence thing

Re: Jake, tom, or both?
They all eat the same If I have a good bunch of jakes on my place I have no problem taking one, but generally not on the first or second day....If I am not seeing too many jakes then they all get a pass, it's tough killing anything when your bowhunting and self videoing, but I don't want to kill off too many of next years stock.
