Re: Live from the field 2020
Improvised ground and pound tonight. The wind they forecasted all week for the swamp I wanted to hunt was the total opposite today. Had nothing pre scouted for an easterly wind so I'm taking a gamble on this spot I've never been. Took my time trekking in here only to not have any trees to hang in. We'll see what happens.

Re: Live from the field 2020
I’ve switch locations three times because of this weird wind. I’ve decided to just stay put even though my scent is sometimes blowing into the bedding.
My first weekend at my place up north. It’s so nice up here

Getting set up around 3, lighting, came back at 4 and had three yearling does at 15 yards eating red oak acorns within 15 minutes. Needed five more steps...then the wind swirled...seems to have stabilized a bit now, gonna ride it out.

Re: Live from the field 2020
After a great hunt last weekend, this evening was a circus. The beast must be wearing on me, I actually backed out of a stand because of the swirling wind. Im on an edge now good trail on my left and about 10 feet up. Not my finest work, but it will do

Didn't see anything last night. Went into a spot and didn't find much for fresh sign, did find another illegal stand.....don't have time to go else where so I'm 100yards from my truck tucked into the brush.

Slid into the place I saw the does come out of yesterday evening. Killed one there last year but nothing showed tonight. It was a very nice sit though, everything seemed perfect and there was a ton of sign.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Took my daughter out with me tonight, man what an eventful evening. Didn't see a single deer but that didn't surprise me.
We went to a large homemade platform stand that's built off of an old grain wagon, parked out in some CRP grass, its about 700 yards from where I saw that big buck so my thinking was at least I could glass that area.
I always make sure the kids go to the bathroom before we leave so the need to go isn't there, well 10 mins after sitting down my daughter asks me if she can fart (she's 10). Yup let it fly we're outside, so she proceeds to let 3 or 4 loud ones go, 2 mins later.... Dad I have to go poop now, well hang over the side and let it RIP, she doesn't hesitate down go the pants. I told her I should take a picture so I could embarrass her when she's older, she just smiled and said you totally should...
About 5mins to dark the land own next to us starts unloading his grain trailer 20 yards behind us, well with all the noise were making and now that we packed up 10 mins to dark. Never did see a single deer, but she was asking when we can go again..
Definitely a good night in my book.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Made my first sit of the year this evening. Have been having some deer move through here in the evenings but since acorns have started dropping the action has gotten a lot less. But I didnt have time to go anywhere else. All I seen was 1 coon and he left before I could swap arrows. Had to setup in a crazy crooked leaner, and if a deer would of came by I'm full confident it would of worked. Went to get down and dropped my thermacell into the slough below and it made a nice sizzling sound as it sank lol. Got packed up, fished the thermacell out and made it about 150 yards out and flipped on my headlamp and deer went to blowing... overall a good first day! Not sure if I'll get to go again til next weekend...

Re: Live from the field 2020
Have to say the covid pressure is through the roof, seeing 3 times as many campers, wheelers, small gamers and even some other bowhunters out and about. Been out scouting as much a possible, finding some good stuff but no encounters yet. Hoping the more pressure is a good thing, help stack some the better bedding area for me. There is one big boy out there with a goofy track that I'd like to get an arrow into.

Skunked again. I was on a roll being on deer the first few sits, now I'm struggling. Oh well I'll keep hunting hard. I know there's a big one out there somewhere.

Re: Live from the field 2020
first sit of the year... in a swamp 10 yards from a white oak dropping acorns but nothing showed up. Looks like the acorns are just starting to drop at this spot, did see a few tracks in the mud. Maybe another try in a couple of days.... IT WAS GREAT TO BE BACK IN THE STAND, ALL WAS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD.
