Re: Live from the field 2020
My shooter never showed. neither did the two year olds... or the does oh the difference six days makes
I did see a 6 pt early on and a half dozen does.
Hopefully I can find some hot sign tomorrow! Got plenty of solid spots to check.

That sucks!! An older anti hunter has a house/horses right next to public property near me. During deer season he shoots all morning and all afternoon. Almost everyday. After season he doesn’t shoot at all. It’s unbelievable. He once told me he doesn’t understand why people want to shoot such beautiful animals

Re: Live from the field 2020
Took the 6 year old out for an hour and a half before dark. After getting some good advice on the forum we skipped using the pop-up blind and made a natural blind inside a clump of wildflowers. It paid off too as we had a doe and her fawn walk within 5 yards of us. I wasn't expecting much (we were only 100 yds from the road), so was happy the boy got to experience seeing deer.

Had 2 cows inside a 100 and a bull that sounded like 250idh yards. Never did see the bull but he bugled about 15 times and kept getting closer just got too dark to shoot so I had to leave.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Went to a small 200 acre piece of public today. First time there, picked a spot on OnX and sat there. Plan was to sit in the woods right on the edge of a cut corn field and have the deer feed to me after they came out of bedding area. Had a doe and 2 fawns do just that but closest they came was around 60-70 yards.
I need to get more aggressive with my setups and get right into the thick stuff!

Re: Live from the field 2020
Was going to scout my way into a spot, but wind was 180 degrees off what the weathermen said and the remaining wind was near zero, making walking in near impossible. No cover sounds at all, so I just bailed rather than blow everything out.
Deer activity is better in this particular area, so I’ll try tomorrow if the winds kick up as predicted.

Up in my old trusty climber this morning. Back in the spot I used the saddle for the first time a couple of days ago. Had a group of four slick heads come by, drilled one of them

This is as good a picture as I can get from night sight on new moon before sunrise. No rest for the wicked!

I'm mostly hunting a new to me property i just got permission for late summer. There is deer there just need to figure it out. Doesnt help that the buckthorn is terrible at this place making abservstion over 40 yards almost impossible. I'm not too worried about it at this point and I have a bunch of good/great pre rut and cruising spots to fall back on in a month if all else fails. Just need to keep in the game and bounce around till I find the hot sign.

Right on brother. Keep moving and you will find them. Positive attitudes help kill deer!!
Also, looks like this may have to be a weekday spot. The dove hunters with dogs are back again. At least I haven't heard Mr. Speedshooter this morning. Maybe he likes to sleep in.
Edit:. Just had a doe and two fawns come by, but they definitely weren't taking their time, they cruised thru quick.

Got out super early and sat for a couple of hours this morning, man that felt good, scouted my way out and a nice rub and good tracks around. Going back to the same general area tonight to have a closer look and scout a little deeper.

Ended up hitting both lungs, she didn't go far. Not very good blood trail, blood only on one side due to very steep shot angle from 6 yards. Going to be very good eating.
