Second season using a mobile, beast-style approach is upcoming and I’m all kinds of fired up. Learned a ton last year, got close to several mature bucks, and screwed up in ways I didn’t know were possible.

Acorns of a few varieties have been raining down for a couple weeks now, making visits to glass bean fields pretty boring. But glassing time is over for now anyways, the velvet is off and it’s time to go find some rubs!

Good Luck Everyone!

Good luck Stingray!

I’m fired up too... feel like there’s still lots to do, nervous, eager, trying to find a hot acorn tree, etc. Can’t wait!

Things are starting to click. I followed a soft edge between Open hardwoods and some thicker tree cover and found two old scrapes about ten yards apart coming out of doe bedding. Nice tall rub head height not far from the scrapes as well.

Went 5.25 miles this morning and pulled 4 cameras I had on public getting ready for the opener next weekend. Found my first rubbof the year and got some good pics off of a buck bed I found a month ago. I never been much of a believer in the bump and dump deal, but going off this camera it would of worked! Thanks to the hurricane 2 weeks ago this area is now flooded and that bed is knee deep in water, so now I've got to figure out where he went, I have an idea though..

Pushed into a nasty thicket high on a hill today. Worked this ravine through the middle of it and found a big bed on the tip of a point in a little grassy area. Walked the trail out and found a tree about 75 yards await that works...

Another day in the swamp. Pushed something out couldn't tell what but found some good sign. Hope I didn't ruin the spot.

The chess match begins.

40 minutes after sundown, 20 after shooting hours are up.

Time to find his bedroom.

Thanks Hawthorne and JM. Gotta say he has me more excited about that spot than when I speed scouted the edges. It’ll be a tricky spot to hunt from a wind/thermal/access standpoint, but that half the fun, right?

Did a little speed scout on the way in to where I hunted this last Saturday.
I was surprised to say the least by the amount of sign already there.
Found a bunch of big rubs and scrapes opened up.
Normally this kind of sign doesn’t pop up until the end of October or beginning of November.
I also checked a couple cams and the recent cold front had a number of good bucks on their feet in daylight.
Things are looking up
Perfection is a dream, practice is hard work, and achieving a goal is making that goal a reality.
