Pulled SD cards and...

Unread postby jchang3 » Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:58 am

Today I went to swap out sd cards at one of the public property that I hunt and got this buck on cam that looks to have an arrow/bolt in him.

It seems pretty freshly wounded. What do you guys think?

Wow. You'd think it'd fall out after a year! Tough to tell though. Impressive if he's been living with that since last season. Nice buck though.

Huh... yeah, it doesn’t look real old, but it’s tough to tell in those light conditions. He seems real healthy and that doesn’t look like it’s hindering him.

Hope you get a crack at him! :D

Certainly looks like an arrow or bolt. Almost certainly recent and not from last season.

Would think if it has been there any length time it would be infected.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Hopefully it doesn't get badly infected and he survives.

Its already bad enough knowing that this place gets heavily pressured. Now seeing that neighboring private property owners are possibly poaching makes it worst.

Yeah, that kind of illegal activity grinds my gears too. I don’t get some people.

Could it be something else, like mud, something on the camera lens, or just a black streak? (Seems like maybe there is another black streak just above the one inside the red circle?)

Looks like the works of a poacher with terrible aim.

Definitely not a lens issue or mud. The picture is an edited snapshot of the video. Watch the video link.

May not be new. Cysts and other fibrous material can form around wounds and protect the animal from infection. Think of how many deer you've seen online with broadheads or bullets stuck in them from years past. My guess would be it was a horribly-gone-wrong quartering away shot.

I know we tend to assume the worst in people, but there's a good chance this was just a hard survivor of last years mistakes.

Ah, didn't see the video link the first time.
