Looking to do some muzzleloader hunting. What are some states that offer some good opportunities? It will be diy hunting.

Michigan just opened up the whole southern zone during Muzzle loading season to any firearm. So if you come to Michigan I would go north , northern lower, or the UP, if you want a traditional MZ season. But opportunities abound here. Over the counter tags. I usually free up a bit in December and January so looked at a few other states as well. Ohio, Delaware, Nebraska, and some others.

Can't wait to hear others chime in.

Often times a muzzleloader can be used as a lesser weapon during all firearms seasons.

I know Kansas has the opening week(mid September) muzzleloading season. Have to draw.

99.9% sure KY, OK, and AR have a weekend or so of muzzleloader seasons in October.

TN has the first week of November dedicated to muzzleloaders I believe.

Iowa has the week in October, but you have to be a resident.

Nothing else pops into my head as having a muzzleloader season prior to having a general firearms season.

Most states have a few draw hunts on special areas that are for blackpowder only. Also, I know of a few states that have areas that are only open to black powder during the general firearm seasons. I’d play either of those games if I was looking to firearm hunt out of state.

PA has a late season flintlock, it’s a few weeks long and no orange required, it’s a fun time! Snow camo and sneak hunting is a good way to get it done

Virginia comes in Halloween this year for 2 weeks before rifle. Can shoot deer and bear.
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

As Brancher and nchb said, VA has a muzzle loader season in the prime time of the rut, and NC has muzzle loader seasons starting at various times depending on which zone you are in. I hunt both states but muzzle loader season in VA is my absolute favorite time and place to be in the woods. The rut is on, the leaves are changing, and there aren't as many people in the woods as regular firearms season.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that there's also a late ML season in a lot of the western counties where most of your public land is.
