Glassed 4 different public properties tonight from the truck from 7p-9:15p. Saw a lot of deer, many fresh fawns, a few lone does, 6 bachelor groups, and 2 I would for sure shoot, but not what I’m truly after. It’s that time of year! Sure am getting excited for Sept!

Met a buddy at a piece of public about 75 miles from the house for some squirrel hunting and scouting this morning. Found some good sign around the bayou. This rub was on a ridge about 300 yards above a swamp, from looking at aerials there appears to be little islands of buck brush and weeds out in the swamp, my guess is hes bedded there, then works up the ridge towards doe bedding

Pulled a cam today that’s been sitting since the first of April. Typically an area with good sign during season but not a hot spot during growing season. Main goal has been trying to find where bucks are transitioning/staying right before and after season. Did come across some pigs and scored on my first ever pistol kill. Going to make a batch of breakfast sausage out of this one.

Ruger P95. I haven’t shot a lot of pistols but it blows my mind they don’t make that one anymore. Great trigger, great accuracy and great overall feel of it in the hand.

Some decent bucks hanging out in this natural browse clearing but no shooters yet.

Did a little glassing at my small permission piece. Saw 4 does and a 130-150in buck out in the bean field just north of the property line. Hung a camera and now I need to figure out a way to get him 150 yards south.

Getting ready to head to MD again to hit a new piece. For whatever reason, I have made it my absolute goal to kill a buck in September up there this year. I am starting to feel guilty about spending all of my summer scouting there, instead of the other two states that I hunt close to home.

I'll post the results when I get back this evening.

Found this rub while setting up mineral site for buck inventory yesterday. I am keeping my eye out for a few three year olds from last who should be 4.5 this year

going to start hunting beast style this coming season. I hunt on a large lease 4 hours from home, hunt over bait in a box and have gotten very bored of it. I'm going to start hunting public to give myself more options closer to home and give my spots on the lease a rest. I'm unfamiliar with these public spots. Would ya'll risk going in and bumping the deer around with several scouting trips this late in the summer? I plan to stop my scouting the end of July or mid August. it's been 35 years since I've hunted public not sure how much I can get away with on Pressured deer. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

So located really good one a week ago in a new area. So after looking at maps of where i seen him i decided look like the perfect overlooked spot water barier and a ditch for access. So i couldnt take it i dove in there today to get a feel ditch leads to 1 acre oak island with a few oaks on it. Seen the buck just on the fringe of the island in some clumps of red brush. After walking the ditch and the island transition i found some big beds on the transition. And one major trail running out onto a hill with grass and brush clumps. Which im assumeing is bedding. And there is good bedding cover off the tips as well. I seen enough to keep a eye on it and if we got acorns this year to dive on in.

And I thought I was the only one nuts enough to go out in this weather!!! Should be a good acorn year. I have 2 similar sounding spots I would like to look at this week, just gotta make the time.

More driving... it was raining so it was hard to see in good detail. Lot of does, only one small buck. Might have found an overlooked spot, We’ll see.

Put out 2 cameras today.
Covered about 140 acres of ground.

Learned quite a bit about these areas found several bedding areas.

One I thought was a doe bedding area until I found 2 large beds inside a downed tree.
