Went out with my dad a few times before I was legal to shoot got me hooked I took a doe during a youth hunt with my 20 gauge single shot that has killed many a rabbits. That November I killed a spike with my bow whole different rush.... shot him at first light when he came in I saw him in some brush must have thought it was his rack told my dad he’s got points everywhere!! We got him back to the house and rigged a decent 8 point to his spikes to go show my uncle he was fooled for a good 15 minutes. Many deer and some real dandies later I still never forget a single detail of those 2 hunts

12 with a bow. It was the first "legal" age I could kill a deer at the time.

9 with the bow

Public land I had to kayak 8 miles in on before my silent saddle approach.

I jest. 9 year old bow kill by myself. After dad and I parted ways in the dark I managed to walk, find the stand by myself, and climb up. Liver and stomach shot out of a barebow 50# XI Impact Plus using full length 2016s tipped with 125 grain Muzzys. One of the greatest mornings ever.

Started hunting when I was 25 and shot my first deer when I was 26. It was a doe and I will never forget it!

Pretty sure i was 12. 1st season shotgun in a group. I was getting discouraged because everyone else was seeing deer and shooting. Well on day 3 i sat in an old homemade wooden tree stand and shot 2 does with a 12 ga winchester. 1 following the other at 40 yards. That was an awesome moment!

I was 9 yrs old .. my dad had a lease in Georgia we drove up the day before thanksgiving. We arrived at the camp mid-morning and drove straight to the swamp to hunt. On the drive in dad spotted a deer and instructed me to climb out the back window (86 Chevy Blazer) and to use the hood for a shot. I remember him hanging out the window and saying shoot it in the head well I shot it in the back hams. Luckily it dropped right there. Fast forward 38 years we still hunt together but roles have reversed I take him with and put him on deer, ducks whatever we are hunting. The hunting together has been the most amazing journey we share the kills together but it's always been the time together that makes the memories I keep on to.

Interesting bimodal distribution. 2 bell curves overlaid with one looking like it represents those that were introduced to hunting by family as a kid by family and those that came to it on their own as young adults.

10 with my grand pop. Button buck came in, had an old single shot 12 gauge. Put the bead on him, closed my eyes and dropped him. Only one pellet hit him and when we cut those little horns outta the scull, the one pellet hit right between the buttons. I’ll never forget it and been hooked ever since

My first year hunting had 2 bucks chasing 2 does walk the edge of a clear cut at 50 or so yards missed the last buck with a single break action 20 gauge twice and they all disappeared into the cover. The next year got handed down a rifle from my grandpa and shot a button buck out of the same stand I missed the deer the year prior.

My Pop tried to get me into hunting as a teenager. I shot a 1 1/2 year old doe when I was around 14 years old. I found the whole process boring.

Got back into it near age 30. I was shocked by how enjoyable it was just sitting in the woods, and the excitement of seeing an approaching deer. Now about 5 years into my archery career I have only shot a couple doe and 1 small buck (that I didn't recover :? ) on private land, and nothing on public yet. But I'm loving every minute of it, and will be taking out my 9 year old son for his first shotgun hunt this year.
