Crazy rub, need help with aging the buck

Unread postby Denisboyko22 » Sat Dec 28, 2019 12:33 pm

Found this in over looked spot along a interstate and many more rubs on smaller trees , I know to look at rub height but seeing this on a 10 inch tree is hard to walk by  just wondering if this would be a mature buck or not cause the height was below my waist

3 plus for sure.

It had to have taken alot of force to do that which shows strong neck muscles.

Do you think height on this rub matters?

My guess is a 4 year old!
Just kidding I’m sure he’s a mature buck. I’ve killed some old ones that weren’t rubbing anything that big. Probably a stud

In my opinion no.
I think it was made by a buck that would interest me.

Big bucks don’t always rub high. I watched one of the biggest bucks I ever saw make a knee high rub.

When a rub isn't high do you then look at the diameter of the tree or that doesn't matter too much? I found a good amount of rubs higher then my waist and all on trees usually 4 to 6 inches of diameter and the lower the rub seems like the smaller the tree they will rub

Can’t say I have ever seen a small buck rub a tree that size. Takes some power with a lot of weight behind it to tear up a large diameter tree.

Best way to know for sure is to set up some trail cams. If that rub is in the bucks core area and he’s still alive sooner or later you will get a pic of him.

Looks like some tine marks well above the rub. That spot would get my attention for sure
