Bump a single deer: buck or doe or ???

If you bump a single deer and you don't get a good look (you hear it bounding off away from you), what is your assumption about that deer?

Depends on where you bumped it.
If it's near buck bedding more then not it's a buck.

Please attempt to put yourself in the shoes of a group of people that does not know the terrain as well as you do.

Generalize.

I voted 80 percent.

Reason their is a short time breeding period for single does when they will go visit a scrape.

This time of year is often predictable based on when the rut occurs in your area.. You will see singles does usually at the same time every year.

I think most encounters of single deer are bucks.
Most mature bucks are loners.

Most of the times it happens, it's been a doe lol.

Even in places I'd bet the house would be buck bedding. Now, a lot of times I don't get to verify.

I do a bit of still hunting and I'm always kinda shocked lol

Earlier in rifle season I had a lone deer bust out and I would bet 100% being a buck. Top 1/3rd elevation. Good view below. Right wind. Tree and a blow down to it's back. Lone deer.

I didn't get a look the first time. Went back a week or so later and put the sneak on it. It sat extremely tight and busted out when I stopped 25yds away.

I played it right and ended up getting that deer in my scope. It actually appeared to be this year's fawn. Maybe a button buck...I couldn't tell. I was blown away. I did loose sight of it and snuck up on it to view it...but I'm fairly certain it was the same deer.

I always assume it's a buck when it's alone and in what I'd say is likely buck bedding....but I've confirmed it to be antler less deer plenty of times.

I can't pick one. My % is based off of what it sounds like bounding off and the sign surrounding it. Bumped one about a month ago that I couldn't get eyes on but I know was a large deer. There was fresh buck sign near the bed. I'm 95% sure it was a buck. I've also bumped multiple lone does this season, large and small.

If you have lots of confidence in the spot and you think a big one is in the area 100% if not 50%. ;)

I assume it is a little buck that I wouldn't shoot. It makes me feel better that way.

I usually don't put much faith in guessing buck or doe. If I don't see the deer that well then I likely don't know if there was others maybe with it that I didn't see.
