Da Turdy Pointer?

Unread postby Stingray713 » Mon Nov 11, 2019 6:15 am

Not sure what happened to this tree.

Any thoughts?

Not a great picture but there was scarring on the other side like brow tines sometimes make.

Anyone ever see a deer stand up and make a rub because it’s around 8 feet tall.

I think that is a rub made by someone with a set of beast sticks to throw off other hunters. Ummm I have seen that before somewhere.

That doesn't look like a buck rub to me; it looks more like somebody nicked the bark low and cleanly peeled a strip off it.
I have seen somewhat similar "tall" rubs. But I don't think they often rub seriously while standing on their hind legs, they shove the sapling over and straddle it and just work it over horizontally.

When they walk away it springs back upright.
(Sometimes.)

They will stand on hind legs to scent-mark an overhanging branch over a scrape, but that's not really a true "rub" as we generally refer to them.

Nope I’m in the foothills of Virginia.

I’ll get some better pictures next time I get over that way, phone was cold and struggling with the up close pics

It’s pretty remote, definitely no other hunters.

Or elk or horses I don’t believe.

Haven’t seen any road apples laying around

Looks like a machete chopped at it. When I first saw it made me think of an episode of meat eater where they made a game carrier out of tree bark.

Elk will quite often push a tree over with their chest, while rubbing. Haven't seen a whitetail do this, but it is a possibility.
