The mini-mite is tapered between the body and the tail to enhance the movement of the plastic in the water. No live bait is needed, in fact, it may decrease your success by combining the two.

A tip to administer when using a mini-mite is to slide the knot so that the jig and plastic body hang horizontally. This combined with the natural bounce from the waves will make the tail dance gently, which is what makes this little wonder bait so effective.

Not a fish biologist, although I feel like one sometimes. I'm a boring data analyst

I'd go ahead and lie and say I was a fish biologist if I was you but if data analysis pays the bills then good for you! I asked because I was at UWSP last year for Forestry (found theres really not much money in it) but did some work with the Fisheries Society electroshocking and what not and its a really awesome career path but to go anywhere you need a masters and the jobs dont pay enough to make it worth if you can find one when you get out!! I stuck to trees doing Arboriculture/Urban Forestry now at tech school but I'm a full time student of the wild outdoors!! Thanks for the mini mite tips sam I'll fish that intensely I know the design when the gills are really popping its hard to keep the tails on those things!!

Got home to see a lot of activity real shallow - lots of ripples and mini wakes. Put on the polarized and took a look. Many smaller gills in the mouth of the canal (I live in a bay by the mouth of a canal). I gave it 20 minutes with nothing to show for it - couple more days?

Any day now, really - could be this evening.

Next week will be my annual trip to the Mississippi River on Loc 9 in Genoa with the usual group. We alternate between Alma and Genoa, and do quite well throughout the weekend.

Sam -
I will be up at Pool 9 as well, either on the barge or fishing from shore on the Wisconsin side. Are you fishing from boats or on the barge? I'm heading up friday morning and staying through sunday.

HA!! No WAY!! I'll be staying with my wife, brother in-law and a couple buddies at Rudy's Pub and Hotel in DT Genoa. We'll be up around 9 PM on Friday night hanging at the bar, then upstairs for some shut-eye.

We'll be in line for the barge EARLY the next morning for first ferry ride over and on the barge the entire day till 6. We'll again be at the bar until sleepy time, then back on the barge for a half-day on Sunday.

WILL I SEE YOU THERE?? Where are you staying?

I'll be staying in Viroqua...couldn't get a cabin in DeSoto like I usually do. Not sure if we will be on the barge, or fishing from shore yet...depends on the water level. It's coming down pretty quick right now...I'll be checking it all out tomorrow.
But watch for us in line saturday morning..I'm kind of hard to miss with the blonde hair. LOL! I'll be with Larry more than likely...and my brother and sister in law.
It will be nice to meet you and your wife!

anyone into any crappies yet? the gills are moving into the shallows from shore we've left with a few nice gills everyday in the past 3-4 days of fishing nothing to brag about but still fun to be catching em. Plain hook and tiny piece of night crawler is the trick. Talked to a guy fishin from a boat and he said he caught a few 9" gills in 8-10FOW. We were fishin the Dousman area

Got a few gills over the weekend in Northern MN. No croppies yet. One 26" northern and a 16 1/2" bass - still pretty slow still.
