Mostly at home and camp but I've slept in my vehicles quite a few times. Always with my .38 in an arms reach, you never know what nutjobs are out there!

Our crew has had a deer shack since 1979. We've added on at least 4 times since the crew has grown to 9 hunters now! I love the shack and some of my best hunting memories are there! But I'd really like to get something like Magic has so I can be more mobile and for out of state DIY stuff!

Re: What Do You Call Home While Hunting Public Land?
When hunting around home, the public land is about a half-hour's drive.....so I sleep at home. If I am in Ontario or in the U.P. then I rent a little lakeside cabin to shack up in.

Here in Mich. we can sometimes have aggressive deer season camping. Some guys will set up their trailer to block a woods road and try to "claim" an area so to speak.
I've always enjoyed setting up a trailer for a public land hunt or fish camp, haven't done it for many years.

Re: What Do You Call Home While Hunting Public Land?
We have to check in each time we hunt the public land in my area (47,000 huntable acre military base). The check in spot is 25 minutes from my home. So my home is my public land home...

I would imagine you could negotiate a pretty good off-season rate for the lakeside cabin, that'd be great for a group of hunters. In Michigan's U.P. I stopped at a motel to talk to the owner, it was located in an area I wanted to hunt. Besides the motel, he had several small cabins out back that had cable tv, hot water showers, phone, fridge etc. The cabin was normally rented out by the week, but I decided I'd try to negotiate. He ended up giving it to me for the month of November for $300 straight up.

I usually sleep in a cheap motel, but tent it sometimes in the north woods, and have slept in the truck too.

Old thread...but interesting topic. On each hunt in varies, prefer to stay at hunting area, but travel a short distance to hunt at times, might hunt several locations during one hunt so central location is important. Eat, Hunt, sleep suffers.
2011 Colorado elk hunt, 10 days, camp at 9400 ft
2011 Pheasant hunt, week in a motel, 100 mile radius to hunting locations
2011 NWO and BWCA deer hunt, 2 1/2 weeks on location in the bush
2011 late season Missouri deer hunt, 5 days, within 30 miles to several locations
