When I first saw the pic with the antlers blocked out I thought 3.5 because of no sag in the belly and long body but after seeing the teeth I think 5.5

My guess 3 1/2 .He looks like a twin brother to the 3 1/2 yr. old I hunted last year.

Anyone have anymore guesses after seeing the teeth? I'll post what the rack looks like tomorrow.

Without seeing the teeth, I'd guess 3.5, 4.5 max. Barely any sag in the belly, young face, and the neck in classic rutting form, typical of that age group. The blackened teeth throw a curve in the mix, but I would say that is due to his diet and/or genetics. So I'm still guessing 3.5 - 4.5 max.

Great post by the way!!!

Here's two pics of two bucks in just about the same position, and taken in the same place with the same cam. The racks have been removed. This is just for the fun of guessing without seeing racks. I'll post what the racks look like tomorrow.

On the first being a big woods scenario, I'd guess 4.5. The last two pics I'd say 1.5, possibly 2.5 but I'm leaning towards 1.5. The second pic I'd say 2.5 possibly 3.5 but I'd lean towards 2.5, even taking into account the lack of good food sources.

The deer weighed 200lbs dressed in early Dec, after rut time. It was estimated a 5 1/2 by the Mass state biologist at the check in station. It had 21" main beams and 4 1/2" H1 (smallest diameter between burr and 1st point) and scored a whopping 115". It had kinda short skull. (in comparison to the many I european mount with my beetles) The teeth were worn down and smooth (tooth wear is nothing more than a guess, but helps when all things are considered) Not all bucks have to have a sagging belly and back, or a big rack to be older. This buck probably had poor nutrition and poor genetics. I guess the point of this thread is to illustrate that deer come in all shapes and sizes (just like humans) and that guessing a deers age is just that, a guess. Where I was hunting was pretty remote public land. I was almost out of there with the deer in my truck. As I was pulling away, an old timer stopped me. He asked if he could see the deer. That's when he gave me the pic. It was a match to the buck I had killed.

Thanks for everyones thoughts and comments.

And if any one comes to Massachusetts, the land he was killed on belongs to we the people, and if anyone wants to go there I'll tell them where the state forest is. It's in Savoy, Mass.
