What Do You Call Home While Hunting Public Land?

Unread postby Singing Bridge » Sat Mar 27, 2010 11:12 pm

When you hunt public, are you a tent camper? Motel mogul? Perhaps you own a cabin or stay at a friends, or do you just stay home because public is close by?

If you have camp pics, please share and describe what works for you!! 8-)

On my annual hunt to Nebraska and South Dakota, I rent a cabin with three of my friends. Last year when I went to Ohio, I stayed at a friends house.I"ve also stayed at old farmhouses, and even a converted church once. Since scent is a big issue for me, I would need some sort of shower, and being able to wash my hunting clothes is important to me too. Not saying you couldn't kill a deer without showers and washing machines, I just feel if I didn't have them I would stink too much. And for those who say "hunt the wind" I do. But I've seen those milkweed pods blow scent many different directions through the coarse of an all day sit. The thermals change when it warms up or cools down, and any kind of front can move through, changing the winds. So I prefer to be clean as I can, to hopefully up my odds while I'm trying to kill bucks.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

The public I hunt is within 1 hour of my house, so I stay at home. Nice Rigs guys!

I hunt from a cottage that has been in our family for 80 years. I shot my first deer there in 1980. I will try to download a picture from my work computer hopefully. Arrowbender has been there duck hunting many moons ago-at least 25!

I think I am going to try to build one of these. I just don't know if it will be practical on my little flare side Ford Ranger.

This idea came from here:

Check it out. There are some good articles on this site that I think some members here would like.

Cool kit, Deerslayer- if you get one, post the assembly pics. on the Beast!

Zap, that deer skull/rack on the camper is righteous!! 8-)

I was thinking about what all the "Other" category in the voting might include, one would be "sleep in cab of your truck". Not very comfortable at all, but sometimes it was the only option for me!
