Re: Got my first turkey, and got it on video!
Thanks for all the support guys I am still pumped about it. The bird ended up having a beard just a hair shy of 10" and spurs just a hair shy of 1". I had to wait for the registration station to open and was late to work as it was so never got a weight on it.
That's crazy I read your story, aside from the bow involved they are very similar thats too weird. Its awesome having a gf that is interested in learning more/being involved. Mine wanted to come over and pluck the bird but she had to go to work. Its neat to see them get excited for you!!!
Definitely working on the video I am running on empty lately though. Moved home from college Wednesday night, got to bed at 1am up at 430 to hunt then worked til almost dark, then worked today and attended some school activity for my sister and tomorrow I'm replacing ball joints on my truck so hopefully somewhere in there I can put the clips together and post a video. After review of the video my "perfect calling" I talked of in th original post is far from perfect but it worked LOL
Here are a few more pics. My gf would be mad I posted this, her words were don't you dare post this on the hunting beast! (You can still see how sleepy she is in her squinty eyes) Thursday was the 2yr mark that we have been dating so it was a cool way to start that "special day", in my opinion anyways
and the "Dan Infalt" pose with a fist pump for success!

Re: Got my first turkey, and got it on video!
Finally got my video done. In the clip with the hens they are on an atv trail and I heard them in the valley below so I snuck in on the opposite side of the trail and started calling. They came up from the left of the screen onto that trail and worked to the right. When I moved the camera you can't see it in the video but there is a little rise over there and you can just see the tips of the fan of the tom strutting. The birds all moved off so I crawled closer to the skinny pine tree in between the two larger ones. I put the camera right on the atv trail on the tripod then crawled back off into the pines for calling and the shot. There is about 3 more minutes of me and the turkeys just calling back and forth on video but I didn't want to bore anyone.

Awesome BackWoodsHunter!! Way to give him a dirt nap! I have to admit though, I LMAO through the whole first series of "near perfect" calling. The second series sounded a lot better. Ultimately you got it done though. Congrats!!!!

You always gotta bust my chops on everything I post I wrote the very first post in the excitement right after the morning hunt, I admitted 2 times after reviewing the video the calling was not perfect but I assumed it must have been if I got the bird. What apparently was not realized was that those hens were putting and making all kinds of crazy noises and I was mimmicking them. They came in to the call not the tom almost as though they were mad another hen was in their territory so I was just trying to repeat and enhance the crazy stuff they were doing. A lot of that was before I hit record on the camera and some of the putting you can faintly hear in the video. They seemed mad at first like they were going to come closer. The second clip was supposed to be series of yelps which I thought was "average" the notes weren't perfect but it worked...

And my excitement was slightly "girly" and over the top but I was really pumped to close the deal on that bird. In the second clip you can faintly hear the gobbles in the distance making it seem like the birds were steadily moving away from me so when that bird came in and I smoked him I was pumped.

Not at all man! Its definitely something to be excited about!
And sorry if I busted your chops at all about the calling also..I just have never heard calling like that, but I didnt realize you were mimicking the hens..Like you mentioned, if it called them in, it must've been fine! The second series of yelps sounded good btw!
How far was that shot?
And it was good to see your girlfriend out there taking pictures for ya! (and congrats on the two years )

Thank you sir! Ya before I turned the camera on I was just making weird clucks and stuff at them and they came closer and were searching around but saw nothing so they moved on and I realized the camera wasn't rolling then so I tried to keep it up to get them to come back but they didn't.
