First deer pics...............post them here

I thought it would be kinda neat to see everybody's first deer kill. We all seem to focus on the big bucks and sometimes forget that the first deer you kill was probably your best trophy. Doesn't matter if it was a buck or doe.

Here are mine. Funny thing is that I hunted my home state of WI for seven years without killing my first deer but on my first day hunting in the Michigan UP near Watersmeet I killed this spike buck back on Oct. 1st 1994. I can still remember it like it happened yesterday. You never forget your first deer!



A little over a year later I killed my first WI buck on Oct. 7th 1995. The best part of that story was that I met my wife shortly before this and she actually helped me track this deer. It was a long tracking job because I hit him back in the liver and he traveled quite far. I don't think I would have found him without her because she found blood on the trail that I couldn't even see. Right then and there I thought this is a woman I wanted to be my wife!!!!



I really enjoy looking back at old pictures and reliving the memories. It's great to focus on why we really hunt instead of just focusing on trophies all the time. Don't get me wrong I love hunting big bucks but sometimes miss the simpler times.

I hunted for 16 years before I took a picture of a deer I killed. For some reason I thought photographing deer was disrespectful to the deer. I held strong to those beliefs until 2007. I killed my first 8 pointer on public land, and he was also my first buck that I rattled in at first light. I saw him two days prior and set up on him two hours before sun-up so the kill was just awesome. I was so overjoyed that I just had to take a picture to keep those memories alive. Even as I had my wife take the picture I felt somewhat remorseful so I did not even smile. Since then I have loosened up and now take pictures. Here is my first "picture buck".

No pictures of my first deer or any deer I took with a gun during the first 6 or 7 years I hunted, but I have a picture of my first bow kill. Shot a doe a couple days after christmas..

My first rifle deer.


My first bow kill. Notice the bend in the shaft right by the broadhead. I hit it in the back and I only got a few inches of penetration. The deer ran a long way before tipping over. I'll never figure that one out.

Cool thread.....next time at my folks I'll have to get the pictures, they have them. They are the old film pictures, do you need a color scanner to "bring them in" the computer?

This was my first deer kill Nov,2006. Im still proud of this guy. I got him on heavily hunted public land in IL with a bow.

I killed a lot of deer when I was very young... We did not take many pictures, and I gave most of the racks away.
My 1st deer was a button buck. I layed down in a field and woke up with it standing 15 yards from me staring at me.
My 1st deer with a bow was a little 5 pointer I got with a very long shot.
