Pray for me bitten by Deer Tick

Unread postby Swampthing » Mon Apr 11, 2011 5:14 am

I went back to scout my island spot. I was sitting on a log and felt something crawling. Looked down and had 10 or 15 of the things crawling on me. Picked another 5 off in the car. I checked myself out thoroughly at home .Turns out I did have 1 female Deer tick attached. So I bagged it and will be off to the Doctor today to get it tested for Lymes Disease. I have a 1in3 chance my tick is a carrier.

I heard they have to be attached for about 48 hours before you can get it. But i'm no doctor so don't quote me. Good luck. I pulled one off yesterday and picked about 20 off me that were crawling this season so far.

I hate ticks- keep us posted on what you find out, Swampthing.

It won't be long before the blackflies and all the other nasties start hatching out either. :x

No worries..

I got bit and got the bullseye a few years ago. The biggest obstacle was convincing an ignorant work doctor that I had Lymes. I had to goi over his head and got an expert involved who got me the prescription I needed to cure it. If caught early, it aint nothing to worry about. You just need to take an anti-biotic for about a week.

Typically they have to have a "blood meal" = 48-72hrs to transmit lymes. If you have the classic bullseye from a tick bite, tyically 3 weeks of doxycycline will take care of the bacteria...

It is now tick season so make sure to check yourself over... lymes disease is no joke

long story short- I have an amazing early season duck spot- limited out every first two days for the past 5 yrs straight. But there are ticks- and bad. This county has the highest level of Lymes in the state. Have had 3 embedded- so many swept off- my poor dog has had tons (inc some that tested hot for Lymes and Babeosis (sp) which I guess is even worse). Just have someone search you over daily and go to the doc right away. BTW- think I am skipping out on this spot next year just out of fear and age giving me some wisdom on the value of a duck

My skin is crawling. I am also now sitting on my turkey chair with my legs pulled up to my chest and feet on the seat all morning now.

Good luck.

how do you know it was female tick?

Why do you say '1 in 3 my tick has lymes'?

Also... I get ticks all the time, pull em off and keep hunting. If you get a bullseye, go get antiboitics. Nothing to fret over... you just can let it go untreated. Just watch the bite....
You can't kill em on the couch

Not all infecting bites get the bullseye... If I remember right only 1 out of 3 get it.
When I talked to a specialist he told me that he prescribes the antibiotic to anybody that is confirmed bit regardless of the 24 hour rule because the antibiotic being cheap, easy, and relitivly safe.

I agree, if I have a confirmed bite... I want the antibiotics. I have seen some sick sick people with late stage lymes disease = SUCKS!

Good luck swampthing, I pulled a few deerticks off myself this weekend and checked myself out pretty good when I got home.

It's not just lymes you have to worry about, my wife (pregnant at the time) got ehrlichiosis and things were scary for a while there but thankfully she got the proper meds and pulled through. The Dr's in our area see a lot of tick diseases so they do a pretty good job. I still talked to a specialist just to make sure we were doing everything we could be.

Nothing to mess around with, I know a few people who are suffering the long term effects of an undiagnosed tick disease.
