Just got my 2009 MN opening day archery buck back a week ago. I took a few photos this morning. I'm not a taxidermist but this is the 2nd mount I have had finished by this taxidermist. There are a couple things I am not pleased with but overall I like it. Please critique and send along any thoughts.

Usually when I see a buck with his head tipped down, it's aggresive posture and the ears are laid back. Nice looking buck, and congrats again.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

Re: 09 Opening Day MN Buck - Mount
My only real complaint is that the ears are too wide. I believe the issue is how the ear butts are positioned. The hide is stretched along the ear but and it should have more wrinkles instead of being smooth, this is causing wider ears. Tip to tip they are like 19", the rack has an 18" inside spread.
I'm pretty fussy, most guys think it looks great but I get pretty anal on taxidermy and how mounts look.

I can kind of see what you're saying James, but for the most part I think it's a pretty nice mount. The only thing I really noticed was that the ears just looked kind of "pointy" at the tips.

I do some whitetail taxidermy and it's not unusual for the ears to measure 19" tip to tip in that position. I do know what you mean about the wrinkles in the ears, I see where they were. It is up to the taxidermist to recreate those. The ears also look like they are set a little far back. One other thing I noticed is that the eyelashes stick straight out or almost up a bit. They should angle down over the eye at about a 45 degree angle or so.
