I once told someone I was going to be smoking crack and looking at kiddie porn while fondling my Glock in one hand and myself with the other....I was morel hunting, not deer hunting. Good thing, too, because I was visited by the police shortly afterwards.

For hunting - or fishing - I usually say I'm not sure where I'll be until I get there.

Just for laughs, when asked where your hunting, return with a question asking where they recommend you sit. They likely will point you away from where they are hunting. The fun part is hunting where you intended to hunt, shoot a nice buck and thank them for the advice letting them think you hunted where they suggested lol

Guys that see a truck and just move on better feel lucky. If I just moved on to the next parking area I wouldn't be hunting because there are cars in every one. 22 parking areas on the main property I hunt. I believe it gets a little pressure haha

One year I kept bumping into to this guy in a red pickup that had to read maps and sign the same as me. I once seen his truck and thought, "surely he isn't where I hunt" as I was walking into my spot I seen him in his climber. He never seen me so I backed out slowly and quietly. Next time at a different parking lot I had about 30 more yards to walk til I was in my tree and I heard a whistle from directly above me. He was like 30 freaking feet up the tree and I never seen him. The third time I was at my truck unloading my gear and he popped out of his truck to chat. I told him I had seen him before and that since he was a good hunter, and new what was going on because he had found my favorite spot, I would just go ahead and share, " Told him there was a huge ten probably 140 or so running around." It was probably a 110 inch 8 pointer. Guess he took the bait and started putting more time in that spot cause I never ran into him again that season at my other 2 spots.
Be in the woods as often as you can....and as long as you can!

I have run into these types of guys a lot. They always say that "their family" has been hunting this spot for over 20 years and blah blah blah. They are trying to make it seem like I am intruding on their turf, but I flat out tell them that I am mobile and try to hit all sorts of new spots. I tell them I am like horsecrap, IM EVERYWHERE.

That usually shuts them up and tells them they just have to deal with me today and tomorrow I will likely be gone.

Singing Bridge wrote:thought about this when making another post... here in high pressure Mich. we get territorial hunters who attempt to claim a hunting area by blocking a road with their trailer or tents, etc. Curious if other states see this? If anyone tries to hunt behind "their camp" they get "territorial" about their hunting area. You aren't supposed to block the road, legally, but it frequently gets done anyway unless a badge makes them move.

See this very often in northern Wisconsin, especially during gun season.

This whole subject has pushed us into the muzzleloader season in lieu of modern gun. Too many jack-wagons out there with rifles.

I think a lot of guys do not encounter this- in really high pressure areas I see hunters being territorial a lot.

Really? The majority of the deer hunting population hunts in one of the heavy pressure states. I would consider WI relatively light compared to other high pressure states, but even here we have a great deal of territorial hunters and fisherman. I have at least a half dozen encounters a year. People in the States are possessive by nature.

I see it all the time. I think waterfowl hunters n fishermen r worse then the deer hunters. Deer hunters dont have any guarantees so its not like everyone heads to the same spot.. catch a few steelhead n someone sees ya.. word will b up n down the river n a few hrs.. n everyone n there brother will squeeze in on ya.

That's why I like fishing big water, and hunting big woods ;).
My next boat will be camouflaged with that blue/grey water (sky reflected). It's amazing how far you can see a 17' white fishing boat. I've had a few of my better spots discovered because someone spotted my boat from several miles away.

I was hunting in an area one time came back to my truck and someone had let the air out of my tire. Wasn't sure at first, thought maybe I ran over something. I took the tire to the garage and they told me there were no leaks.

I once investigated a stand in a pine tree. No ladder, just climbing the branches. Someone had placed a broadhead on one of the branches. It was a nasty move. I removed it so nobody would get hurt. It really disgusted me.
