A Beagle and A Buck

Unread postby DropTyne » Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:14 pm

I went and got pictures with the rack of my buck from this year and my little tracking buddy Tap at his humble abode.

Here is a picture of me with the rack and Tap.

And Tap's owner my buddy Matt.

I think the coolest part is that Tap has no deer tracking history. It was just his instinct. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Cool dog. I grew up raising beagles and loved chasing cottontails with them.

Are you going to get one of his pups? Thought you mentioned that in your originall post?

Cool Droptyne, my son wants a dog, and my only requirement is that it'll be able to find sheds  My wife has one too, that it don't shed :? And he wants a Lab. I'm sure a lab will fit my requirements, but I think they can shed pretty heavy at times. We'll see!

Try a beagle lab mix. Seen some dogs like that and cool looking dogs. They do shed alot though.

My last hunting dog was beagle springer mix, Shorty we called him. Had the howl like a hound and was great at driving snowshoes. Gave him away to one of my wifes co-workers husband when we went to New Jersy for work back in 2004.

Replaced him with (2) house little dogs later on. One hunts red squirrels and chippys. Looks funny watching that dog try and hunt, wife trys to make her look "prissy".

Great use of the beagle! Did you buy him a "bone" for Xmas?!

Gotta Love a Good Dog! ^5! I've only had a dog help me track down a buck one time & it was a buddies big Doberman Pincher. I think both of us freaked out at how quickly that dog tracked the deer where I had previously lost the blood! The Doby covered another 150 yds of trailing quicker than I could've imagined & I was glad he had it on a leash because I think it was fully ready to eat my deer when we came up on it dead! LOL!!! Seriously, I bet we covered 150 yards in less than 2 minutes with that Doby just up on his hind legs pulling all the way! Definitely gave me a ton of respect for using trailing dogs to track down wounded deer! ;)

That's exactly the way this dog did it. The first 75 yards I followed the thin blood trail took me about 2 hours. The dog was to the place I lost blood (75 yards) in about 3-5 minutes.......

It was eye openeing to say the least.
