I've never bow-fished but REALLY want to. Last bow season, I got an old compound bow from a guy I work with. Minimally, what do I need to get set up? I know they make specific arrows, but is that all??

Get an AMS reel/retriever( they come in left or right hand, be sure to get the right one!!!), at least 2 good arrows (I use Muzzy's purple ones--stronger and withstand rocks well) and some extra tips for carp or gar. You will need the extra tips if you shoot alot and where rocks are. I have been known to go thru 4-5 in a day(but then, I would shoot for 8+ hours some days!!!)You don't need a sight. You only need 40# draw weight. And a good pair of polarized sunglasses I find to be a must!!!! If you can hook up with Dan, he is a great teacher!!!!! He taught me and I went out and shot over 1,000 carp, buffalo and dogfish year before last!!!!! I was sooooo addicted!!!!!
Hope this helps.

Ah Yes...Carpfest from 2008. That was fun, even though I was just learning and couldn't stick one! Sure hope we have a get together this year! :D

I would be glad to take you carping a day or two Pesser. Deb is right about the AMS reels. I would also say, not all arrows and tips are created equal. But you can buy cheap equipment and still have fun.

I remember when you shot that fish on top of the ladder and fell of the ladder

I like to use the 4 blade tips. They work great in fast moving water. I use the yellow and black arrow. Just as good as any of them. Just make sure you get a tip that you can replace the point of it. They get beat up and if dull will bounce of a big fish.
