Re: What's a public land trophy to you?
I would consider anything 3.5 years old on public land a "trophy". As we all know it's tough for them to get to that age... Although, a buck has to have a certain look to me for me to want to take them. I don't have a set score criteria per say... But, that look generally takes about 140 inches of antler.

A public land trophy to me is 3.5 or older. However, I will shoot a 2.5 year old if I think that is the best buck I'm going to get a chance at on that property.
The flip side of that is, I've also passed 2.5 year olds when I knew for a fact there was a bigger buck living on a given property.

A public land trophy to me is any deer that I am fortunate enough to put a tag on to help feed my family. As for a buck, I hope to hold out for one that is 3.5 yrs. I don't judge anyone hunting high-pressured public land!

Re: What's a public land trophy to you?
I thought about my reply for a little bit. Honestly, I know nice public land bucks can be harder to kill than on private dirt... BUT, I really think my idea of a trophy would be the same size/age deer as a trophy animal on private land.
A trophy in my mind would be a trophy regardless if he came off a private farm or a public track. I have smaller deer I appreciate more than my bigger ones just due to the hunt, challenge, who was hunting with me etc.
I am still yet to lay a big buck down like I plan on doing (this fall ) but, for me for now, anything with a stick and string over 140 I would consider a trophy and would make me

Well I would say for me that I try to hold out for a 3 year old or bigger. I would like to start shooting bucks that would score 125 or better.

Since I'm old, decrepit , hunt only public land and only use recurves and flintlocks I'm not very picky. Deer are getting so scarce where I hunt I didn't even see a buck last season that would go over 120" and only that one.

Re: What's a public land trophy to you?
For me it has to be a deer 3 1/2 or older and I have let some big 2 1/2 year olds walk just to be shot by the next guy. But that is not what matters to me at all. I am just glad that I found my way to the hunting world and have a family that understands that a man needs to go think once in awhile

A buck that's 3.5 or older. Or mobile setup bed hunting a 2.5 year old.
Bigger the challenge the bigger the reward.

It use to be any 3+ or 130+. Now it needs to be a target that I have history with...but if a random 150+ walks by I'll take em, lol.
