I used to have a cart but it was stolen a few years back. I now use pure man power and determination.... but sure would love to get another cart.

I just carry them out over the shoulders so far, but I am young and have only shot a few big bodied deer so far. I have used four wheeler as well depending on access.

Saw this thread and had to go do some diggin' to find these.

My dad came along to help me get this one out; about a mile back in public. A Langlade Co. WI monster, lol.

I think this was 1991. Evening hunt; I couldn't find him. Went back the next morning to find that he had died in a creek. Had to break ice to get him. (Man I hate gutting ice-cold deer)

That's funny, I was going through this thread thinking I need to take photos the next time I bring one out with the bike…Works great for long firebreak walks that are the norm most areas I hunt.

We hunt very close to the river for bear. They like the thick stuff along the water. For deer we go back in a bit further. Here is a pick of my sons 21012 bear. Our stand was 50 yds from the water. It was only 206 lbs gutted but I felt it a bit the next day. Image

Getting animals out in the big woods by water makes a ton of sense. Great pic and teamwork, by the way. Congrats to your son on the bear as well. 8-)

martin peters wrote:I've used draft mules to get hunters and bait into and bears out of my bear stands for years. I use a hard plastic sled like the otter but with lower side walls and tie the bear in tight. We put a tag line off the back to keep the bear from sliding up under the mule while going downhill. This prevents a real woods rodeo from starting. Mules are better than horses ( I have used both) they are very sure footed in rocky ground and will even jump from rock to rock. They are incredibly strong and I have had people stand on the back of the sled with the bear and surf out of the woods for miles on more level ground. They can carry 200+ lb bait loads all day long to places you could never get a quad to. M.P.

If that isn't a cool post on getting a bear out, I don't know what is. I know the terrain there is very rugged and steep. That is a serious commitment to bear hunting, no doubt.

For the most part I use a cart with a bungee cargo net to get them out. I also always carry a glow stick so I can easily find a deer or the cart in the dark. They are 2 for a dollar at the dollar store.

Here is a picture of the cart with some deer my friend shot last season.

looks to me like the only thing you are missing is a 20 year old nephew to hitch up to the cart! are you able to give info on the cargo net? lots of guys use those carts... 8-)

This is pretty similar to what I have.

You can find them pretty cheaply at Walmart or Harbor Freight. I found that it worked really well to hold the deer in place.

Looks good, thanks for putting the link up. When you think of all the carts like this one that are out there, every little bit helps.
