Re: Camera Stolen+camera found= Man in Jail!!
Glad you got your camera back, but I did laugh when that the dope on the video was doing a "Happy Gilmore". I luckily have never had a camera stolen but I have found out how many people tresspass on private land because of them. Almost had one guy's entire back tag number, sooo close. It would be different if they were tracking a wounded critter or something but it's obivous with the frequency over the years that this isn't the case.
Tree stands on the other hand, lost more than one of them before but not for a few years now. When you can buy the cheapest stand you can find for $35 at menards, it kind of limits the reward to effort to risk- ratio.

It's not a problem, it's a opportunity for a solution.

A 27 year old that lives with his grandmother. Well in police work we call that a clue.
Glad everything worked out for you so that you were able to get the dirt bag and get your camera back.

Re: Camera Stolen+camera found= Man in Jail!!
Bump for great story... Anybody have any ideas on how to stop/prevent thefts of trail cams? Or track down thieves? I know in the old days of film guys used to take the 1st picture of themselves holding a sign saying if your developing these pictures and I am not the guy getting them developed, call the cops, cam was stolen.

I write messages inside and top of mine. I guess the messages are meant to make them feel like guilty scumbags, not sure if they work but none of mine have been stolen with messages on them. I've seen many trail cams in the wood s while coon hunting and it has never crossed my mind to even touch one.

You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Good bump. Very cool to read through this thread and its awesome that guy got what he deserved! Id like to hear some tactics some of you have for "hiding" your cams and preventing theft.

Re: Camera Stolen+camera found= Man in Jail!!
Good story and glad it was bumped... just wished the video was still available.
I make homebrews and take a lot of pride and time to construct a good one. When I hang one it is as secure as one can be. However we all know if a thief wants it, he is going to take it! So I often take an extra cam and hang at an elevated spot watching my trail cam. This way if it does get stolen, hopefully I will get a pic of the thief.
I have been very fortunate and not had one stolen yet. However, we have a thief lurking in a tract of land I hunt. He has taken a total of 3 cameras and 2 tree stands belonging to my buddy.

I would make an effort to catch him by putting out a dummy ( broken or worthless ) camera and put a good on in a hidden location to get his back tag # as he disconnects the cam from the tree. Lock it like a real one so he has top work at it and gives you plenty of pictures...
