for those of you who think albinism is rare, THIS IS RARE! i have only seen a couple stories in n.a.w. since it has been out over the years . but this is definately rare. awesome photos dan.

Yes and yes...

That would really be cool for you, a white and a black deer. That would make quite an addition for an already impressive trophy wall.

Sure would, but the chances of me getting a black one are pretty stacked against me. I have seen over 100 white deer, and probably that many true booners, even a couple antlered does, but I have never ever seen a melenistic deer. Not even mounted or in captivity. Close as I have come is these pictures or the occasional magazine article.

That's cool!

Most melanistic deer live in Texas. There is a small population of them there, though they do occur elswhere as well.

And Tim is right, melanistic deer are even more rare than albinos.
