Re: Atlatl ??????????????
Cool post, ZAP- I did a lot of research on atlatls as a youth. Pretty cool to think that prehistoric man used an atlatl and spear or "dart" to kill woolly mammoths and sabre tooth tigers. Some have theorized that the atlatl was directly responsible for the extincion of the woolly mammoth in North America. Atlatls were used with arrows by homosapiens a bit later on, around 15,000 BC.
I had no idea that people were using them anywhere to sling arrows at deer? I'd make sure it was legal in your state first. I'd definitely give it a go as I was pretty fascinated by them as a kid. Hmmmm...

Never used one, but have a few stone atlatl weights my grandfather found in an artifact dig years ago. Pretty cool, several thousand years old. I've seen pics of how the wood parts connect to the weights and work for the throwing, thought about building one but got enough to do making 18th century stuff, don't need to go back to the tenth century!
