What states/species have you hunted on public-land?

Unread postby publiclandhunter » Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:53 pm

Everyone,

I just want to get a gauge on where/how most of you have hunted critters on public land? I have chalked up quite a few hunts on "public-land" - some with success others with failure, but all left a me better hunter when done.
Michigan - Bear, Deer, Predators, small game
Maine - Bear, Deer
North Dakota - Mulies, Whitetails, Antelope
Colorado - Mulies, Elk, Bear
New Mexico - Bear, Mulies
Pennsylvania - Deer
Iowa - Deer
Illinois - Deer
Nebraska - Deer, Small Game
Ontario - Deer

Dan,

How did the Minnesota deer experience go? Always interested in learning more about Minnesota - especially the "Big-Woods" of northern Minn.

Also, tell us about the Alabama hunt. I know their season runs into January in the black-belt region and I have always wanted to give it a try.

Minesota was a bust... I went up near where I bear hunt. There are not a lot of deer. But wolves? plenty of those. Wouldn't mind going back up with gun sometime to do some tracking.

Alabamba... I was invited to the Buckmasters classic event. It was January. It was a televised event. Lots of famous people were there. I hunted with Jeff Foxworthy and Wade Bog's. I shot a small 8 pointer. They put me up at the Southern Sportsman's lodge.

Michigan - Deer, bear, turkey, and many small game
Idaho - Elk, (also had a bear and mountain lion tag)
Wyoming - Elk,
Colorado - Elk,
Nebraska - Mule Deer
Illinois - pheasant deer, and dove, living half my life in this state I also hunted a lot of private land for small game.
I have only shot animals in Minnesota on farms.

Seems like I am missing something. I travel so much for work, maybe thats why I thought my list would be bigger than 7 states

Stikbow26 -

Give me the lowdown on the Idaho bear? I have a group of friends who moved to Driggs, Idaho several years ago and have had great success on nice bears.
