Killer B did his job today but Mt. Man couldn't get it done!

Unread postby Mountain Man » Fri May 20, 2011 12:43 pm

Early this morning two hens entered an adjacent field and a few minutes later the tom followed. The hens eventually walked behind my setup and the tom was going that way too. He was drumming and strutting most of the way ~150 yards. After a while he came into my setup of Killer B standing over a hen and two other hen decoys (one feeder and one upright). I drew on him and had to hold for about 36 seconds. That doesn’t seem that long but I was feeling it a bit. He finally gave me a decent quartering away shot and I blew it. I don’t know for sure what went wrong other than operator error and I think the combination of holding too long coupled with not picking a spot and rushing the shot made me hit higher than I wanted. I grazed his neck as there was a little meat on the arrow. He ran into the woods but reappeared in the field a couple minutes later but was too far away for another shot. I watched him for about a half hour before he finally made his way over a hill and out of site. I’m very disappointed in what happened  since it should have been a chip shot but it happens. I still have 3 more days left to try and fill a tag with the bow again.

Here is some video from this morning’s hunt in WI.

Looks like you got him right in the neck..Im actually kinda surprised he didnt go down - what kind of broadhead are you using?

Glad to see Killer-B pulling them in..Ive been really happy with mine since getting it before this season.

Nice video, and good luck during the next three days! Looking forward to some more video! 8-)

Jeez I stopped the video before the slow motion replays started, and after watching them, I realize my first statement in my post above is a little obvious

Im still kinda surprised he flew away looking almost unharmed though!

The broadhead was a Muzzy 3-blade. Right before the season started I thought about switching to something like the Hammerhead. I'm going to make the switch to a large diameter expandable for turkeys for next season.

Ack - After reviewing the video I also thought he would be dead with a Bullhead.

DEERSLAYER - I use a Sony Handycam that is about 6 years old and I download and edit using Microsoft Movie Maker.
