LIVE from the (turkey) Field - 2022

Unread postby greenhorndave » Thu Apr 21, 2022 12:26 am

Opening day in WI.

Went out to a spot where I've had some action in the past. No gobbles, just a lone hen.

Will try to strike something up later due to work.

I’m not in the field anymore - got home a little while ago. This morning I shot a nice 2 yo Tom on public with the 870 12ga. 22lbs., 10.5” beard, 3/4” spurs. Couldn’t get him in off the roost. About an hour later he came back gobbling and with a little yelping I brought him right in for about a 30 yard shot. Good luck to all you turkey hunters!

Been an entertaining morning on a buddy's land. Watched these 6 jakes defend my flock of 5 decoys all morning. Theres a big tom that keeps trying to get to me and the jakes keep chasing him off. Like watching a bunch of college kids fight over girls. I thought about shooting one of the Jakes just for being a big bully but held off lol. Good entertainment value. I'm out of coffee but have enough snacks to get me to lunch time :D let's see if tom can outsmart these young punks.

Looks good Mike

Had a few gobbles early, they were answering but shut off.
