Don't get Bit!!

Unread postby PAbowhunter10 » Fri Apr 15, 2022 3:55 pm

Ticks seem to be a constant battle hear in PA especially this time of year. With Lymes Disease at a all time high and the discovery of the deer tick virus, a type of Powassan virus, in central PA, it seems that the tick population is growing exponentially. What strategy's have you used to control tick exposure in the woods? Sprays, clothing types, procedural steps before and after the hunt? This will be a good topic to explore before the northern hunters make there way into the woods this Spring.

Some articles for those that never heard of deer tick virus

Permethrin has taken care of 99% of my tick and chigger exposure. But, I unexpectedly turkey scouted Wednesday after work, and picked up 3 ticks in 2 hours. I need to keep a pair of treated clothes and boots in the truck.

I second the Permethrin. It actually kills the ticks instead of just repelling them, even better. You can put it on your dog as well.

Permethrin has worked for me. I do a spray down of all my hunting clothes a week before season starts then throw them in a tot. The only time I reapply is if I wash or get rained on. Seen ticks literally die and fall off my pants when properly applied. Just wanna be careful when you apply so you dont get it on your skin or breath it in.

I'll take the ticks all day as long as theirs no snakes.
I buy enough permathrin to keep the company running.

My scouting outfits are sprayed every 2 weeks throughout the spring ,summer, fall. Depending on how much I sweat i run 3-4 outfits that way I don't need to wash them every single day.

Dunno for sure but I go through about 20 cans of permethrin a year.
