They're Strutting!

Unread postby Black Squirrel » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:01 am

Saw my first Toms in full strut this morning. A group of 5, strutting for the ladies. I'm sure some of you have already seen strutting activity, but this is the first for me, and it kinda gets me fired up.

Always fun to watch.

Went for a ride sat am. Heard so many gobbles on my first stop I had to leave as my ears were ringing. I was at a public spot but the birds were across the road. Then I hit a private area and had one gobbler going nuts on the roost. I continued the ride and was watching a flock of about 40 birds, had 7 toms fanning out (private that I dont have access to, but will be trying). Hens yelping it was a pretty good show to watch for about 15 minutes.

Yep they are crankin' up.........Saw two struttin' for the ladies about three weeks ago. Went out scouting last friday and found a group of about 25 6 were gobblers and a few jakes, all fanned up. It was next to the road on a property I drive past so I rolled down the window and gave an owl hoot, they all fired up at once, first gobbles of the new year for me. 8-)

what is everyone hearing in the Juneau Co / Wood Co area? I'll be heading up to listen this weekend, so I'll share if I remember.

I drove ten miles uptown this morning, and saw well over twenty different strutting toms. The corn stubble fields are loaded with birds around here right now.

Had a hard time locating Tom's (any turkeys for that matter) on the public land, but I did see a group of 3 Toms 4 hens and 2 I could not tell if hen/jake in Juneau County, just outside of New Lisbon. 2 of the Tom's were in FULL STRUT! Although, heard only one gobble sitting out both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Been seeing a few strutters in Zone 3 in Michigan. Co-worker drives around in the morning, said the birds are talking like crazy (private land).
