Looking at buying a new turkey gun.

What is everyone using? I'm really considering going with a 20 gauge any thoughts on the 20 vs the 12 gauge.

I use a 12 gauge rem versa max. Got it to be a waterfowl/turkey gun. If I were setting up just a turkey gun these days I’d go 20ga. The new turkey ammo for 20ga is a game changer and my wife’s 20 kills them just as well as my 12. If multi purpose waterfowl/coyote/turkey then I’d go 12ga.

If I were purchasing a new turkey gun.... for sure a 20ga with TSS . There really is no need to take a beating from the heavy hitter 12 lol. AS mentioned above, a 20 with good ammo will leave them stone cold

I came across the Savage 301 recently. It's a single shot shotgun in .410 or 20ga. I was intrigued by the .410 but realized it's not legal for turkey here. It comes with a choke and is designed for the Federal TSS load. It can be found for around $150 as well. Thing I'm going to get one in 20ga for this Spring. 12ga is overkill IMO.

I have a pretty good suspicion that under the Christmas tree there is a savage 301 turkey in a 20 gauge for me. Mainly because I bought it and gave it to the wife to wrap it up for me. Best part was a couple of weeks ago my son asked her what she got me for Christmas. When she said a gun he started quizzing on her on what model, and she didn't have a clue. She didn't even know if it was a shotgun.

I think it was $180 from the local shop. Best part is they already have a turkey choke in them which normally runs around 30-$40.

The TSS in the 20 gauge is a game changer for sure.

For under $200 plus the cost of a red dot or scope and you are in business. Pretty tough to beat in my opinion.

Well I guess my wife listened when I gave her the gun to give back to me. She didn't mess up wrapping it. LOL. Can't wait for spring to get here.

I love my Stoeger M3020 20 ga great gun. I bought an Indian creek choke for it that really reaches out there. Plan on using Apex #9s TSS. It may be my go to gun... in the meantime my main gun is my Mossberg 835 12ga.
