Turkeys roosting on the sunny side
I hunt with a buddy that says turkeys always roost on the sunny side south or east facing ridges. Now, of course, we all know this is not true...But every time I hunt with him, this has been the case lol. And I do notice it as a rule of thumb. Who else sees this in hill country or mountains?
Some do. Some don't. I just might...

Re: Turkeys roosting on the sunny side
South facing ridges is what I’ve seen typical in Wisconsin, but it’s not 100%. When Wisconsin first introduced turkeys and opened the spring season, they came out with a guidebook that specifically stressed south facing ridges.
I hunt some bigger woods areas in the state that are mostly swamp/creek flowage/big woods. A lot of roosting areas will be on very small ridges that won’t even show up on topo maps. Sometimes it’s best to find a strutting zone in that situation which can lead to a good roosting spot.
