I bought a Win SX3 Long Beard three years ago. Great gun, 4 toms in two years. I have it setup with a Longbeard choke tube, and run 3" Longbeard XR #5 shot through it. Patterns great out to 50 yds. (I prefer the birds up close and personal) The way the Long Beard rounds shoot, it will be a while before I try the TSS. $18 for a box of ten LB is hard to beat. Then add in the $3/box rebate. ;)

Federal and Alex both load TSS now (maybe others too?). So no NEED to learn the secret handshake to get the shot and load it yourself.

I'd definitely go with a 20ga and TSS. I don't care about the price of shells...after it's patterned, it's a couple shots a season max.

I'd go with a holographic or atleast fiber optic rifle style sights...just because the patterns are so tight you need to have a precise aim.

Handle different guns and see what YOU like. I put an adjustable AR style Knoxx pistol grip on my 870 and I love it.

I'm stuck with the 21" 870 because I bought 5-6 boxes of 3" Magnum Blend before TSS came out and I was happy with it. I'm still happy with it. I don't have a 3" pattern at 20yds. And it's more than capable at ranges further than I will shoot. I watched some TSS videos and the 20yd patterns are crazy. Don't know about other guys...but I kill the majority of my turkeys within 30yds.

And, my primary turkey gun is a flintlock anyways lol.

I love my 20 gauge 870. No optics, just the bead. Light weight and deadly.

Theres something about using an 870, just so simple. I pretty much only use it for turkey but I bought a cz drake in 20g and am tempted to play around with the tss loads.

12 gauge 870 for me Trulock long beard choke shooting 3 1/2 inch long beard xr. Haven’t killed one with this set up yet but it patterns great and I’m confident it will do its job if I do mine.

I just got a Remington 870 super magnum a few days ago. It has a primos tightwad choke. I shot 3” Remington #5 nitro turkey and it’s great at 20 yards and decent at 35. I just bought a box of 3” #5 Winchester longbeard xr today. I’m going to shoot my next day off. I’ll post a picture of the results compared to the Remington loads.

Imagethis is the Winchester longbeard xr 5 shot at 35 yards. Primos tightwad choke Remington 870. This is actually 2 shots. It’s hitting very high from point of aim. I’m sticking with the Remington nitro turkey for now. I know the Winchester is a good load but not with my current choke.

So to wrap my decision, I went with the SX3 Long-beard 20 gauge. That gun is now discontinued, so finding one was a challenge. I found new supply through gun broker since my local stores didn't have stock.

I have a really nice Benelli 12 but still prefer to carry my beat up Winchester 1300 turkey gun in 12 because I'm not afraid to scratch it up. Heck, I have a extra full choke for it but keep the modified in there just because I dont like long shots...

My kids Remington 870 youth gun is a thumper as well, great patterns out to 35 yards.

870 is a great gun but it has become a nostalgia piece in the gun safe. I have since switched to a Winchester SX3 with a Burris Fast Fire 30 red dot. Love that gun. Also bought my dad a Browning Maxus last year. That gun is a great shooter as well. Next Turkey gun will be a youth 410 with TSS. I haven't decided which one I want to go with yet.
