Fewer WI Tags this year?
I just did the 10am virtual line to get a leftover turkey tag for unit 4 period C. Usually there are a few available right away. On my phone, there were 800 people ahead of me, but on the computer I got in right away. And there were no period C tags. So I bought a D but was a bit disappointed. Does anyone know if there were fewer tags this year in Zone 4 or overall?

Zone 4 sold out of C this year and last during the initial lottery. Earliest was D. Last year with tags for period C in Zone 4 was 2016.

Pickings were slim in 2016 as well. 559 tags were available for Zone 4, Period C after the initial lottery.
That being said, I applied for Zone 4 this year, periods A and B. I didn't draw a tag. Only a preference point.

Good to know. Last year I drew, so I didn't realize they'd sold out prior to lottery then too. I've got 2 weeks between my MN season and WI. Guess I can scout deer!

That was my plan as well. Equally bummed!

My first year turkey hunting- have bow hunted for deer for 30 years but had zero interest in chasing a turkey. Im now a WI resident so figure i'll give it a try.... but how is it a Resident WI turkey tag is $30 and a deer tag is $25??!

Beats paying $60 for the license and $15 for each non-resident tag.

Fewer tags in spring yet I read yesterday there will no longer be a drawing for a fall tag. If you want one just pick your zone and there are no limits for any zone.

On one of the pieces of public I hunt (well, technically a field bordering it) I counted a flock of over 70 last winter. They break up big time come spring, but I've hunted there for years now and it seems like their numbers keep climbing. It is confusing how the fall limit (or lack thereof) is set up so much differently. I guess they know that statistically based on low fall license sales or harvest numbers they can get away with it.
